My doctor never called me back....

I left her so many messages yesterday and she never responded. Her nurse and secretary are the ones that answer the phone and all they could do is send her a message, but she has not replied. I posted yesterday about my shortened cervix and how it can be dangerous. I don't know if I am exaggerating, or doing the right thing, but so far, all the research I've done on the internet says that when the cervix is shortening (mine is 1.9cm) that the doctors should treat it as a high risk pregnancy and I should be monitored weekly. It also says that I should be put on bedrest. I stayed home from work yesterday and today but I am trying to see if I could get a doctor's note. I told the nurse this and she said she doesn't know if the doctor will give me a note since I took it upon myself to stay home. I just don't understand why they are not treating this seriously. I am not trying to get off work, I actually love my job, I just want to take care of myself and I want them to take care of me. I know it sounds like I am exaggerating, but I don't want anything to happen to my baby. I am barely 24 weeks. Any advice would be truly appreciated....

Doctors have huge patient loads and so it was probably just taking some time to get back with you. I know I called my doc's nurse a week ago and still haven't gotten a return call (nothing SERIOUS, but still annoying).

You're paying big bucks for that doctor to care for you and your unborn child.

lol. I was planning on saying I am having some kind of discomfort so that they will take me more seriously. Well, I just got off the phone with a l&d nurse. She told me she talked to my doctor and that my doctor said that my cervix is not that short and that's why they haven't put me on bedrest. She told me that if I have any type of contractions, bleeding, diarrhea, nausea, or any other symptom of labor, to go to l&d. I have none right now, and I am hoping they don't come. I talked to her about my concerns and she was able to address them. I am allowed to go to work, but I just have to take it easy, which I am planning on doing. I guess I'm going to have to wait until june 20 and find out what is going on then.

I'd make sure to stress your Dr won't call you back and it might not hurt to say you've been having "some" cramping

Well, I talked to my husband. He is very upset that the doctor has not returned my calls and he says he is coming home early and he's taking me to the ER. I will be leaving in about an hour. Thank you so much to everyone who responded and I will keep you updated.

Can I actually do that? Can I just go to the ER because I feel concerned, even though I am not suffering pain or bleeding or anything? I am kind of hesitant of going since the hospital where I'm delivering is half an hour away and I am afraid that they will just tell me to go home. Also, I don't like to drive freeways, especially that far, so I would need to wait for my husband and he doesn't get off work for another 2 and a half hours.

I'd go to the ER...if you TRULY feel that you have a shortened cervix (which I know nothing about) and it is detrimental to you carrying the baby and you need bed rest and your doctor is not taking your calls/concerns in a timely-courteous-professional manner then I would take it into my own hands and go to the ER and tell them you are fearful of a threatened miscarriage...they'll give you an ultrasound, probably do your blood counts AND check your cervix...you will have total peace of mind by the time you are done and a note to cover yourself if you need bed rest.   That is priceless to me...I'd go!  Good luck and keep us posted!

If she wont call you back I would go to her and make someone give you answers and if she wont then find another doctor who will..... Dont let them take the safety of your baby lightly!!! Good Luck to you both....

Thank you! I am glad someone agrees with me. According to an article I read online, the cervix should be 3-5 or more centimeters. At 24 weeks, anything shorter than 2 is considered incompetent. Like I said, mine is 1.9. I was scheduled for a 3D ultrasound, but that is not until June 20. It seems too long for me, I want answers now. I just want to get a hold of my doctor and talk to her about my concerns, but she's not calling me back. I am so emotional because of this right now, and that is why I am staying away from work too. Today is my second day off, if she doesn't call me back today, I am going to have to go back to work on Monday. I am just going to have to explain to my coworkers that I have to take it easy...but I feel so bad about that. How can I go to work and not do my job? Thank you so much for your response. I don't know anything about a shortened cervix or if this is the same thing as an incompetent cervix, but I have heard of women having m/c's because of cervix problems.  Now, I AM NOT saying that this will happen to you, but I don't blame you for being concerned.  I would continue to press this issue with your doctor until you get some answers and some reassurance; especially with the info. you are getting on the internet.  Be careful and please keep us posted......
