My feet are swollen :(

I am 18 weeks pregnant and my feet have been swollen today, my co-workers just told me to call the doctor immediately.  Is there something wrong?

I started swelling at 7 weeks in one leg.  It was only in my legs until 21 weeks or so.  Now I'm 34 weeks an I swell in both hands, legs, and feet.  My face has not swollen thank God.  My hands are numb and hurt when I wake up in the morning.  My dr an midwife said that some woman just swell and that its normal.  When I first started to swell they did tons of test on me and every thing was fine.  So tell your dr. so they can run test.  The will test you for proteins in you pee.  Good Luck, Anita

do you live in warm climate?  if so it is normal to swell in warm weather even as early as 18 weeks.  yes stay very hydrated and you need to switch from sitting to standing at work every once in a while.  sitting too long can cause swelling as well as standing too long.  get something at work to prop your feet up on while you are sitting.

i had swelling badly but mostly after 30 weeks although my aunt was prego in the summer and because of the heat, her feet swelt very early on.

just watch and make sure mo where else swells to fast.  i ended up at the very end, 38 weeks getting preclampsia and they had to take the baby via emer c-section. but other than that as long as your blood pressure is fine, the swelling is ok.

Mumita- I too sat at a desk all day with my first son and my doctor told me that was a big part of why I was getting so swollen, she said I wasn't getting enough circulation. You can also get swollen from being on your feet too much. You're d a m n e d if you do and your d a m n e d if you dont.

raise your feet so that they are higher level than your heart - that should help reduce swelling.

I'm not swollen on my face and hands thank god!  Just my feet and they look pretty puffy.  I called the midwife and she said to put my feet up and drink lots of water.  My boss sent me home to rest.
I sit at my office all day so that's why its weird.

GRose- I just had a huge plate of mexican food so there's tons of sodium in that, I didn't know my feet were swollen when I was enjoying my delicious enchiladas.

SweetAngel- I haven't had any bad symptoms so far so a little swelling isn;t so bad but I'll definitely rest and hopefully it'll go down soon.

I have the anatomy scan appointment on Monday so they'll check on me on Monday.

Thanks!! :)

It is a little early to be getting swollen but as long as you aren't getting swollen in your face and hands their really isn't a reason to worry. Sweetangel is right, you should report it to your OB so they are aware and try and get your feet above your heart when you are home.
Really watch your sodium intake and drink lots of water.
I was so horribly swollen with my son that I couldn't fit into shoes in the middle of winter so believe me I know how badly it *****. I hope it goes down for you.

Try and keep your feet propped up behind your desk if you can.

Swelling or edema can be normal, and it can be not normal...

When Swelling is Not Normal

When swelling is sudden or extreme, or found in not only the legs and feet, but face and hands, it can be something serious. You should report this type of swelling to your midwife or doctor immediately. You should also report swelling that does not go away after many hours of rest. If you're at a higher risk for complications that include swelling like preecclampsia your practitioner should have explained what you are looking for and when it needs to be reported.

Whenever you're concerned about your swelling or other medical questions, never hesitate to talk to your doctor or midwife.

Poor Mumita!  Knock on wood, I'm almost 33w and I have had zero swelling!
