Names and opinions

People need to understand how rude and imposing it is to act like their opinion matters SO much about the naming of our son! I am so frustrated....my boyfriend and I are quite happy with our name pick, but people always seem to have to put their two cents in and suggest names they like, essentially putting the name we picked down.  Maybe its because Im pregnant and hormonal, but excuse me, is this your child to name? No. When you decide to pop a child out then you can name them whatever you like. I just think its one of the rudest things! Ultimately its our child and what we choose to name him is what we will call him for the rest of his life, so I am definitely going to make sure its a name WE love, not what our family and friends love. Anyone else dealing with this issue? I feel like Im going to SNAP soon! Lol

My Dad Keeps Telling Me To Pick A Name That My Daughter Will Be Able To Spell. Its Annoying Because They Want Me To Choose An "American" Name. Her First Name, Noemi Is Not Hard To Say Or Pronounce At All. Her Middle Name Is The Aztec Word For Flower.I Tell Them That She Will Eventually Learn To Say And Spell It Since Its Her Name.

Lol. I was thinking Olivia for a girl! My daughter is Clarissa. Not sure on boy names. My friend who is also pregnant (her 1st) would tell me her baby names (she like crazy weird names) so I practice my straight face so I do not offend and I never say if I like it or not I just say "oh does Brandon agree on the name?' But then she will be like "I just don't like those plain names like no offense but megan. I don't want my child going to school where everyone has the same name." -ummm I was really nice and supportive of your weird baby name and you are telling me how much you hate MY name! Lol women!

I agree, why should the length matter? I do understand different names are hard for other kids to say but why should that change your opinion about the name of your child? They'll grow up and itll all be fine lol. My sons name will be Oliver Leighton Stothart, which is definitely long but hey, more spelling/writing practice for him. lol

My niece is Elizabeth and though her mom calls her Ellie everyone is school calls her Elizabeth... When she was learning to spell her name she suddenly wanted to permanently go by Ellie. I thought it was so cute lol. She'd get so frustrated because her name (and I quote) has 9 whole letters and is the longest name in the class, but she learned to spell and write it as all kids do.

I dont get why people think there opinions matter... your baby, your choice its not kind to bash someone's choice in names for there baby.. you dont have to like it but dont be mean and bash it silently dislike it to yourself. Some of my co-workers think my daughters name that we chose sounds like (no offense intended) a black chicks name.  Meika  which is actually the German name for Michelle... I wanted something different so thats why we did not chose Michelle and my husband loves it.

I know the feeling. My husband and I are naming our daughter Makinsley Savanna and some people in my family keep trying to have us change the spelling or the middle names since it doesn't really have a meaning my husband just really liked it. And others tell me to change it because its to long of a name for a child to learn to spell. Last time I checked shes going to have to learn to spell either way no matter the length of her name lol. I just nicely tell them no thanks I like the name or im just going to stick with the name! Its really annoying lol

Hahah knufrio so true. Plus friends is flippin awesome. I am so glad Im not the only one dealing with this! Honestly if one more person puts our chosen name down (which is Oliver, Ollie for short!) I will lose my shat. No one is going to influence my childs name except for his daddy!

I feel like the line is thinning between boys and girls names. I mean most women wouldn't think to name their daughter Robert or something like that but Karter is pretty and with the K looks more feminine. I know a woman named Ryan which I also think is pretty. (On a side note this convo reminds me of the episode of Friends where Rachel says she likes the name James and everyone smiles in agreement and then she says "but only for a girl" and everyone's expression changes)

I'm naming my daughter Karter Renee and every one gives me grief about it since it's a "boy name" but unless they plan on carrying her the rest of this pregnancy, I could care less what they think.

I was gonna say, lol it is my first initial and last name and would make an unusual name for a child but still everyone is entitled to name their children what they like. I work with a woman who is terribly culturally insensitive and doesn't understand why Indian parents give their children Indian names. She says they are in america and need to understand that the kids will be picked on for having weird names. I personally think it is important to have diversity. The works will be very boring of filled with nothing but Josephs and Jennifers

Knufrio really sounds kinda weird so I totally understand there point. Do the name even has a meaning??? Or do we just randomly name our kids??

When I told my mom my bf and I were naming our son Nolan she tried to think of every other "N" name out there. She was like it sounds like No Land. It hurt my feelings,  but it's the name my bf and I love..so that's my little baby's name (:

My family knows me well enough to know that once my mind is made up thats it and they dont bother me about it. The only time I cringe especially on this app when people ask for opinions on names with funky spelling and that's only because I am a teacher and I know the struggles some children have with creative name spelling. However I respect that everyone can make their own choice and I just take a deep breath and keep it to myself haha!

The worst was I really LOVE the name Ophelia I think its just dainty and classic. My sister told me its too close to pedophelia. I was floored how rude and disgusting. I haven't talked to her since lol
