No fetus at 5 weeks

I went for a vaginal ultrasound on Wednesday.  I was 5 weeks 3 days.  The technician said that she couldn't see anything.  So of course I freaked out and went home and did another pregnancy test and confirmed that I was pregnant and also received my blood work back the next day confirming pregnancy.  Was I just too early too see anything or is it possible I had a miscarriage and didn't know?  I go for more blood work tomorrow to check my hcG levels.  I have such anxiety!

Same thing happened to me.
@ 4 weeks, they saw nothing (freaked out like you)
5 weeks, They  saw a gestational sac forming but nothing in it.
And at 6 weeks.....BABY!!!! With a tiny heart beat and everything.
I know how you're freaking out. I thought I had a fake pregnancy, where your bady says you're prego but theres no baby. Just wait a few more weeks before you freak out.

what your going through sounds pretty similiar to something i went thru called a blighted ovum. Your are actually pregnant, but there is no baby that grows. i hope that this is not the case, but you should have been able to see at least a little something. You should not have seen a heartbeat because its too early. I know that this is difficult... but wait a couple of weeks, and have another ultra-sound. i really hope the best for you!! let us know how it goes!!!! best of luck

The reason he did an ultrasound was because when he did a pelvic he thought that maybe I was further along than I thought so he decided to send me for an ultrasound to get proper due date.  I knew when he sent that I wasn't further along, just really bloated, but I thought it was a great excuse to see the baby.  Wow, do I kinda regret that decision.  Hearing all your comments though is making me feel a lot better.  I'll update once I know my results tomorrow.

Ladies, not completely true.. altho, its tough to see the baby. I am 6 weeks pg. w/my first,
and we went for a vaginal ultrasound at 4 weeks 6 days, and didn't see anything, then at 5 weeks 6 days we went back for another and saw the sac, yolk, didn't quite see the baby but saw a HEART BEAT!

the Dr. was suprised and said that normally it'd be too early to see it. So don't freak out unless they don't see anything at 8 weeks!
as for the heartbeat, they can SEE it by 8 weeks, and sometimes it takes a bit longer to HEAR it.

Hcg levels will be a better indicator of a viable pregnancy...like the others said, it may just be too soon to see anything on an u/s.....did they do one this early for a particular reason?  unless it's high risk (at my office) they don't do one until you are about 8 weeks along.

I wouldn't worry too much. You took another test and it was pos. I was told by my doc that at 5-6 weeks is too early to see anything on an ultrasound.. That the baby is not big enough to be seen... As long as you are not cramping or bleeding, you should be fine... it's just too early to see..... As long as your test results come back good you should be fine.

I wouldn't worry too much. You are pretty early in your pregnancy and I'm not sure if you would be able to see anything yet. You usually don't even hear the heart beat until the 8th week. Try not too stress out! Good luck!
