OT barley cereal

I have always made my own baby foods and this time wanted to try barley. So I went to Whole foods and got whole Hulled Barley. I have never bought this type before. So I threw it in the food processor to make it into a powder like the rice and oatmeal but it would not do a thing, then I tried to cook it and cooked it for 40 min in boiling water then let it sit to absorb for 10 min and nothing much! Still pieces and not mush and still won't do anything in the processor! ughhhh neve rhad this problem before and I even crushed one open to see if soem how I got the pure whole kind by mistake and it is hulled with no shell so I am at a loss....

Anyone know what to do and how to make this???? I really would like to try it and heard a recipe to make these sweet potatoe balls for 8months and up, that is if he even was interested in foods, I thought he would be by now but really isn't but I still want to offer even if it just a bit or two, that is baby spoon bites! Yep he really takes to the first few bites then is done! Not concerned cuz it is more for learning texture and flavors but ahyway how the heck do you make it????

I have planned on making my own baby food from the beginning. I have a large food processor and a magic bullet. I make smoothies daily for myself. They just came out with a Baby Bullet that is for making baby food. It's really expensive and not worth all that comes with it. Neat but not worth the price.

I bought Fresh Baby So Easy baby food kit. It has a cook book, trays, and video. I don't think I'm going to use the cookbook though. It says to microwave everything.

I bought ice cube trays with lids off ebay that I plan on using.

I'm gonna check out that web site for some recipes. Kaelynn is only 4 months and we just started rice cereal so I still have a while before I will be making any food.

wholesome baby food ******* has good stuff and the nutritional values and how to buy, prepare and store!

You need a food processor for most of it, I got mine for $8 at walmart 13 years ago and is still working, they still have them for that price too! You bake lots of veggies and fruits and some you steam. I made sweet potatoes a weeks worth of 2onces once a day for $1. Now you would have to spend $2 for two days worth of gerber organic and it has added stuff to maintain color. I called the company and asked exactly what they added cuz lemon juic will do the same thing and is natural but it depends when you add it to know if it has to much. Well all they could tell me was that they use FDA regulated stuff which in turn means chemicals! No it is not all natural even if it says organic. unless it states where it came from it is allowed to be from a chemical base as long as a certian percentage is organic they will sell it that way! Now as far as food growers they are very strict on them! If you get the whoel product then you know it is organic! Things can be frozen too so you have things year round.

best thing is to buy special baby food trays or ice cube trays that specifically say they can be boiled and boil them every use! You make the food put it in the trays, plastic wrap over it, freeze then pop the cubes in a freezer bag or glass container (pyrex works great! Then take out an hour before eating at room temp in baby's bowl, or put it in breastmilk bags even for the diaper bag and spoon out. It is easy to get just what baby needs and have lots already made! You can spend one day a month that way to make food. I use corelle little bowl I got from walmart to heat as it can go in the oven and I never microwave babies food. It takes out so many nutrients and you are never suppoed to! Gerber will tell you if you call them, theri glass and plastic containers are not meant not tested for the microwave. NOt all glass can go in the microwave nor all plastics and those are one of them.

Let me know if you ahve any questions!! How have you been how is your little one?? I have not heard from you in forever! Henry is already 7 months old!
