Ok, silly question..

So, we all know about now that sex can help get thing along. What I am not for sure about is what is it about sex that helps?

1) Is it the mens' "stuff "

or

2) is it when we O

or

3) is it the in, out movement????

Or all of these above? LOL

and if so, Does it matter in what order? LOL Oh my........ Like, should he get off 1st then me, or the other way around?? I know, I know, I am thinking way to much in to this.......

I've always been told it's the O. The contractions are what speeds things along (same as how O can bring on AF if you are waiting for it). So the good part is that if sex is uncomfortable at this point, you guys can use 'alternative' methods...*winkwink* lol

my DH and I had sex like 4 or 5 times the day before I went into labor with my daughter!  I told him he was going to keep having sex with me until I went into labor!  Sure enough...I had an appointment with the doc on July 2 at 10am...(I was supposed to be induced July 3) and I was dialated to a 3....my husband came home for lunch at 1...woke me up (I was exhausted!) and when I went to the bathroom there was blood when I wiped...headed up to the hospital and I was dilated to a 5.  They admitted me at 3...broke my water at 5...had her at 10:08!

So if sex doesn't bother you while your pregnant...tell your hubby to jump on it!  LOL...it may be the only sex he is gonna get for the next 6 weeks!!

I've been told it's both....the sperm aids somehow but also the orgasm does.  I had a labor and delivery nurse tell me that I could just "handle things" myself and it would help lol

A quick google search turned this up:

"Sexual intercourse helps ripen the cervix as prostaglandin-rich semen bathes the cervix, thereby breaking down cervix collagen. In addition, orgasm causes uterine contractions. As long as membranes are intact and the woman has no vaginal infection, sexual intercourse should not be risky. It is commonly prescribed for couples when the woman is 38 weeks gestation and beyond"

I believe thatit is the sperm that gets things going..... I have also heard that it could be a combo of both Orgasm and sperm.... I really think it is who you ask.

I have no medical answer.. My vote is this;

If sex isn't uncomfortable for you at this point and may actually speed things along.. I would be all about it!!!   Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!     =)

when you orgasm, your muscles contract.  Since your uterus is is a muscle, it also contracts so, sometimes, having orgasms can jump start your labor. I don't know anything about the sperm softening the cervix.  But if I was you, I'd get as many orgasms as I could (put that hubby to work - you are going to work your butt off delivering that baby so he can put in some time making you as happy as possiable now because it's going to be a while after your baby is here before you can do it again, take advantage of the time you have) and have a GREAT time and if it triggers labor than great, If it doesn't, hey at least you've had a good time and are relaxed LOL :D.
