Oh and I have to add that before I was diagnosed my periods were irregular. They'd be 2 weeks late and then I'd bleed for 2 weeks. On and on this went. I kept swearing up and down I was pregnant only to find out that I had ovarian issues. So it's worth getting checked out because PCOS can cause you to not ovulate, which would then make it impossible to conceive without intervention.
Let's just take the first step, though, which is getting a diagnosis. It might not be PCOS but whatever it is, it'll be good to get it dealt with so you can get pregnant easier and quicker!
SexyDiva, you don't have to have all of the symptoms associated with PCOS to be diagnosed. I only have a handfull of the symptoms- high testosterone, cystic ovaries, and I DID have crampiness through my cycles but I don't anymore (probably because of the medication).
A great website to checkout is soulcysters (that would be .net at the end, not .com or .org). You can get more information, talk to others who have similar situations, etc. My username on there is njeosys though I don't go on there very often.
My periods are irregular. Although I dont have all of the symptoms that JoyRenee listed I have been gaining weight, and I have noticed a few stray hairs under my chin. I don't know what it cold be but I'm ready to find out. JoyRenee I'll let ya'll know when my appt. is when I schedule it
SexyDiva, sounds like you might need an ultrasound either way! Let us know when your appointment is so we can all be sending you well wishes.
I have PCOS syndrom and basically you need to have an ultrasound done for the doc to detect how many follicles you produce a month .But it is not something you can develop overnight.. I had it all my life and my periods been very irregular
I may just do that. I don't know what else to do. My boobs are hurting so bad right now I had to take my bra off! (I usu. sleep in it) I found out on the Internet too that an etopic pregnancy will not show positive on a pregnancy test
It could also be a thyroid issue so make sure they check your thyroid on the blood test.
I have PCOS but symptoms associated with it are:
-weight gain; inability to lose weight
-your hair falling out
-male pattern hair growth (facial hair, ie)
-some have insulin resistance and glucose probs
-LOTS of cramping through your cycle (from the cysts)
-irregular periods
-hormonal problems
There are many other reasons for missing a period. If you think you may have PCOS, call your doctor and request a blood test to check our hormones. Usually your hormones are off-the-charts crazy (I have high testosterone). If the hormones are off then they'll do an ultrasound and an insulin/glucose test. U/S would show many cysts on your ovaries (hence the name polycystic or "many cysts"). I personally don't have the insulin problems but I take Metformin and it has helped tremendously.
