PLEASE HELP

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP, I AM A 27 YEAR OLD PREGNANT WITH MY SECOND CHILD. I AM AROUND 6 WEEKS AS OF RIGHT NOW AND I HAVE A VERY SEVERE FORM OF FIBROMYALGIA. I HAVE BEEN PRETTY ADDICTED TO PAIN PILLS THE LAST 2 YEARS. I EITHER TAKE DARVOCET OR HYDROCODONE FOR PAIN. I WAS TAKING UP TO 12 TO 16 A DAY BUT NOW I HAVE MANAGED TO TAKE ABOUT 8 A DAY. IM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY BABY AND I HAVE TRIED TO STOP BUT GO THROUGH HORRIBLE WITHDRAWALS. IM TERRIFIED TO KEEP TAKING THEM BUT I CANT GET OUT OF BED IF I TRY NOT TO TAKE ANY. I ALSO HAVE TO WORK AND IT IS JUST NOT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO WORK IF I DONT HAVE A PAIN PILL IN MY SYSTEM. I AM TRYING TO LOWER THE DOSE AND TRY TO GO AS LONG AS I CAN WITHOUT ONE. I HAVE MY FIRST DR APPT THIS FRIDAY BUT IM TERRIFIED OF WHAT THE DOCTOR MIGHT SAY IF I TELL HIM MY SITUATION BECAUSE I HAVE NOT HAD THESE PILLS PRESCRIBED TO ME SINCE LIKE MAY AND IM NOW JUST GETTING THEM OFF OF OTHER PEOPLES PRESCRIPTIONS. IM ALSO VERY VERY DIZZY WHEN IM HAVING WITHDRAWAL. IF I KEEP LOWERING THE DOSE IS IT POSSIBLE TO QUIT THIS WAY WITHOUT WITHDRAWAL AND WHAT AFFECT WILL THE PILLS HAVE ON MY BABY?? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP BECAUSE I AM SO SCARED....I HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR THIS BABY FOR SOME TIME NOW, THANK YOU

During pregnancy almost every women gets constipated. Straining will not cause a miscarriage that was not meant to be because your bowels are not close to your uterus.

I know it is hard, but please try not to be scared.  Stress is bad for the baby!
Also, if you are worried about impending withdrawls, since they are very bad for the baby as well, your doctor will probably want to work with you and get you on something to take and at a safe dose throughout your pregnancy.  Or they will at least have you taper off to minimize harm to the baby.  I was "high risk" throughout my first pregnancy because of my medication and they ended up not treating me any differently .... sometimes I wonder if they forgot I was "high risk."

Good luck to you!  Try not to worry!

SO I WENT TO THE DR ON FRIDAY AND TO MY SURPRISE I DIDNT EVEN GET TO SEE AN ACTUAL DR. I WENT AND JUST FILLED OUT PAPERWORK AND THEY TOOK URINE AND BLOOD SAMPLES. I DID HOWEVER GET TO SPEAK WITH A NURSE AND I DID EXPLAIN TO HER MY ISSUE WITH THE PAIN PILLS. SHE SAID THAT I WOULD DEFINANTLY HAVE TO MAKE SURE AND TELL THE DR AND THAT SHE WOULD SET ME UP ANOTHER APPT ASAP. I ACTUALLY HAVE 2 APPTS THIS WEEK, ONE IS ON TUESDAY TO GET A SONOGRAM AND THE OTHER IS THURSDAY AND THAT IS WHEN I GET TO SEE AN ACTUAL DR. THE NURSE DID TELL ME THAT IT WAS BEST I LET THEM KNOW NOW AND THAT MORE THAN LIKELY BECAUSE I WILL BE GOING THROUGH WITHDRAWS I WILL BE TRANSFERED TO A HIGH RISK SPECIALIST...IM STILL SCARED CAUSE I HAVE YET TO SPEAK WITH AN ACTUAL DR... HOPEFULLY THE DR WILL BE UNDERSTANDING : ( JUST THOUGHT I WOULD FILL EVERYONE IN....

The Cancer is because of something else, Just happens to be in that eye....the blindness was caused by those, Co Codamol and codine are the only ones I know the name of,
but there were Anti depressants and ALOT of other stuff too..... I know Pitzofen was one and alot of others about 14 different types of Tablets,
He isnt just blind, he has lots of other problems too...
Austism and stuff...
havent seen him in about 6 years though because he lives with his mum, i live with mine and my dad has a new wife.
But tablets caused those problems.

Just see your doc and they will sort you out, and they wont tell the police or nothing

Just tell your doctor, everything will be fine.  When I first found out I was pregnant with Jade, I was 12 weeks along.  I wasn't upfront with my doctor because I had been taking things that weren't perscribed to me AND that I didn't need.  My first drug screen came back positive and then that caused problems.  Had I been open and honest from the beginning, things would have been much better.  All that happened to me and they didn't call the police or take my baby away.  After that I was able to work with the doctor and get on something they said was OK and that they could monitor.  I know it is scary, I was terrified too.  But it will all be OK.  I promise.

Good luck with your pregnancy, your illness, and your addiction.  It's not easy, but it is do- able!  Good luck!  :)

Well, tell your doctor everything you just said. Be honest, and tell him how it makes you feel as well.

I've had to take pain pills this entire pregnancy due to severe migraines, and originally I planned to wean off at the end and have my baby's system clear by birth, but unfortunately my migraines began getting worse and worse...so it's been a tough road. My doctors were the prescribers though so they knew what I was getting, and I was also seeing a neurologist and a Maternal Fetal Medicine Expert to monitor the effects of the meds on the baby...and so far everything looks perfect. I'm being induced tomorrow and have request a perinatologist to come to my son's birth and make sure he's healthy and shows no signs of withdrawals...fingers crossed, but I know that I did the best I could to manage my pain without the meds when possible and he'll have the best care available because my doctors were a part of the process the whole way...this is what you want for your baby.

Not to be mean Cassandra but it's highly unlikely that your step mom's addiction caused those problems, especially the cancer. Unless she was taking some other sort of drugs...pain pills just aren't known to cause those sort of defects. Codeine IS associated with hearing defects, but almost nothing else aside from certain growth and respiratory issues.

Honesty with your OB is the key they are unlikely to get you into trouble, they just want you and baby to be healthy, and to do that they have to know the truth...the WHOLE truth. Your husband deserves to know the truth as well, so don't leave him out of the loop.

OK I JUST DONT WANT MY BABY TO BE TAKEN AWAY, I MEAN THERE IS A VERY GOOD REASON I HAVE BEEN TAKEN THE PILLS AND WAS EVEN PRESCRIBED THEM IN THE PAST DUE TO MY SEVERE FIBROMYALGIA. IM NOT MAKING EXCUSES BUT ITS NOT LIKE IM TAKING THEM JUST TO FEEL GOOD, RECREATIONAL USE OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. I JUST GOT MYSELF IN A BAD SITUATION BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH THE PAIN. I REALLY HOPE THE DR UNDERSTANDS, IM TIRED OF TAKING THE PILLS BECAUSE THIS ADDICTION IS A LIVING HELL : (

Hard to say. Some doctors might, some might not. That shouldn't be a factor here though. The health of your baby needs to come first, so you have to tell him. I honestly doubt you'll get in trouble. Many women have come on this board asking the same question and being terrified to tell their doctor and it turns out their fears were unneeded because the doctors understood and were able to help.

Born Addicted, Half blind and LOADS of other problems. Now has Cancer in his Eye because of it.. He was warned it MIGHT turn out cancerous in the furture but we didnt think by the time he was 12, But that's with Co Codamol and Codine, I am unsure of the Medications you are Currently taking, But its best to tell your doc, they can helpss you :)

Under certain circumstances, when the doctors know what the mother is on and can monitor the mother and the pregnacy, the baby is watched carefully after birth and weaned off the medication if necessary.  They try to make it as painless for the baby as possible.  If the doctors didn't know about it and the baby was born addicted, that could be very painful and possibly life thretening for the baby.  She said she has Fibromyalgia, that is a serious condition and I am sure they could treat her for her pain throughout her pregnancy and keep a close eye on the baby and her baby would be fine.

I was scared my baby would have withdrawls when she was born.  She was fine and they told me that while taking the medicine I could even breastfeed if I wanted to.  I opted not to, but I thought that was interesting.

Also I have to say.. If you take tablets whilst you are pregnant (Well being addicted.) Your baby will be born addicted. And will have to go on a Detox programme.

You don't get "in trouble" for taking pills when you're pregnant, at least not at this point.  Please just be up front with your doctor.  If you do it behind the doctor's back, they will know because they do a drug test when you first go to your first prenatal appt.  If it comes back positive for something you are not prescribed, they will continue to do drug tests.  If you fail another one, they will test the baby's mechonium (sp?) once it is born, and if you have taken anything illegally after about 16 weeks or so DHS or CPS or whatever it is called in your state can take your baby.  Just be upfront with your doctor.  I know a few women with chronic back pain that have been allowed to take a healthy dose of hydrocodone throughout their pregnancy.  The prenatal doctor even prescribed it.
