Painting when pregnant?

Did any of you ladies do any painting when pregnant? I just want to prepare the baby room, and I wanted to do it before I get too big... I'm 14 weeks pregnant now; is it ok for me to do the painting myself? Thanks :)

This isn't to contradict anything but wouldn't a mask essentially cause you to breathe in carbon monoxide? I would ask just to make sure because baby needs oxygen. As others have said they do sell a low/no fume paint that is very environmentally friendly, too. I would maybe go with that paint, though they don't have a very good color selection from what I understand (I could be wrong!) if you're really worried about it. Otherwise Behr is the best!!! I hate Valspar, Ralph Lauren and others. They're too runny and splatter everywhere. I've always gotten the best results with Behr.

mom2ariana- I didn't paint my first daughter's room. My husband did it... and he is NOT a painter. LOL! So I've been the one painting ever since.

Yeah, I have a mask and both a floor and ceiling fan. I have my dr. appt. on Thursday, so I guess I can just wait until then and ask her what she recommends. Thanks again for all the comments :)

idk i didn't feel comfortable painting. i had DH do the baby room and our bedroom.
if it were ME i wouldn't but i dont have a basis for that...i was just paranoid when i was prego.
i did a little touch up work after he did the main coats and that was okay, but i bought a mask. i highly suggest you buy a mask that filters out fumes (from lowes or home depot) if you plan to do any painting.

My mom and DH painted our nursery and I did touch ups after. I just took a lot of fresh air breaks.. the room was well ventilated but I still went outside or took many breaks. I wasn't in there very long to do touch ups in the first place but ya...that's what I did.

Thanks for all your comments; it really helps! The room I'm painting is really small, and I have a lot of time on my hands, so I can take it slow :)

I'm 27 weeks and just finished painting my babys room yesterday. It took over a week because I had to do it slowly but it was well worth it. Everything I read said just to keep it well ventilated. Also, they sell paint that is safe during pregnancy.

I agree with joy renee, latex paint and make sure the windows are open, its not all that good for you when your not pregnant to be in a non ventilated room and paint, what i did even before i was pregnant, because i can't stand the smell of paint, if put a box fan in an open window where it was sucking the air outside and not blowing it inside. You should be fine as long as all the windows are open and the door and the fan thing wouldnt be a bad idea.

You can use latex paint (no oil-based paints or primers). Keep the room ventilated (open windows) and rest often. You can do it! I painted 9 rooms while pregnant with my second daughter as we had just moved to a new house.

For there to be ANY effects on baby you'd have to shut yourself in the room with no ventilation for hours. You'll be just fine and so will baby! ;-)

I've always heard that painting isn't recommended for pregnant women, but am not totally sure on that..
