Pooping after episiotomy (may be tmi)

Two days ago I had to take a bowel movement. I couldnt hold it in and I absolutely had to go. Within seconds of sitting on the toilet I was in tears. If I pushed just a little, It would kill me. If I just sat there, It would hurt because it had no way to come out it was so hard/big :( I felt like I was dying..I have stitches all the way to my other hole, maybe an inch away..and when Id start to push (I had hemmoroid but its gone now) the toilet water would get bloodier..unsure if this was my stitch or a hemmoroid inside :/ I eventually had to put a glove for dying hair on, and pull out my poop. by far the grossest thing I have ever done..but I was in so much pain I felt I had no choice. Well yesterday morning I had to go again..this poo was softer but still was too big and wouldnt come out; I cried and cried, was sweating, felt like throwing up..when I had to put the glove back on :( Today I feel the need to go again but I am avoiding it by all costs. I dont want to be in pain again, bleed or have to put the glove back on. my doctor never told me what to do..the hospital never told me..i have "duracel" stool softeners but havent taken them yet cause im not sure if I should..Its like I need diarrhea in order to pass bowels without having to put the glove on and pull them out. :( Im in so much pain already between walking and sitting...pooping shouldnt have to be on the list too :( please tell me what i can do!

I am not sure if this was recommended by someone else already, I just scanned everyone else's responses quickly.  But, I also had an episiotomy and was scared to poop afterwards.  I took Miralax, recommended by my OB/GYN.  It's over the counter powder that you mix with water or juice.  It worked wonders!  I took it a couple times a day for the first week or so after having my baby and it was great!  Now, I still had to be careful with wiping, I used the Charmin fresh mates after about a week of just using the squirt bottle and then an immediate shower..lol  I use fresh mates all the time anyways, and they are way better than just toilet paper.  Best of luck to you!  I feel your pain!

take the stool softeners, they give you them for a reason. You could have avoiding all the terror hon! I would guess the blood was from the hemmroid, I get that sometimes now and I am  15 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. Another reason to take stool softeners is the hemmroids!

after reading this... I think Im going to opt for a c-section... the fear of tearing, getting cut down there, is too much for me. But yes, Id be taking those softeners like ASAP.  ;)

I was given something call magnolax (I think thats how its spelled) anyway even though it is a laxative it worked great! It didnt make me have to go but it made everything WAY softer! To be honest I didnt even have to 'push' at all!

They're fine to use. It's just OTC so anyone can
use them. If It will help you, just call a doctor or pharmacy and ask.

Even with the stool softner I was intears the first few times after giving birth. I'm still in pain and seeing a GI specialist tomorrow because I'm bleeding everytime still.

I would recommend taking the stool softners.

They give you softeners to help you go to avoid this. Use them. Why would you not? They're not going to hurt you.
