Postpartum bleeding/period???

Ok so i just don't know what to think or if i should be worried...I delivered my daughter just over 9 weeks ago without any complications and had the postpartum bleeding up until right before she was 5 weeks.  At 5 weeks i went and had my recheck and everything looked great.  Well, just 4 days after the bleeding stopped i started a "period" that lasted about 4-5 days and since then over the last three weeks i have had two more bouts of period like bleeding.  I am still brestfeeding and my dr. said i am not have  a period until i stop, but i have been basically having one for all but a few days of the past 4 weeks.  I am just not sure if i should blame all of this on hormones or what.  At what point do i get m OB involved??? Should i be concerned that something didn't heal right?  Any thoughts would be great!!

I have been on the mini pill since my 5 week PP check up so maybe that is a reason for it also...I called my OB and she told me not to wory about it unless it lasts a couple more weeks so i guess we'll just wait and see.

Breastfeeding won't ALWAYS stop you from bleeding.  For MANY women, it does delay your period for some time but there are always exceptions.

With my 3rd child, I bled for 6 weeks PP.  I stopped bleeding for a whole 2 weeks and then had a regular period at 8 weeks PP.  I then had regular periods from then on and I exclusively BF her until she was almost 9 months old.  No supplementing or anything.  So, we are all different.

Also, are you on any type of oral BC??  I was on the mini pill after giving birth the past 3 times, and that pill causes me to bleed a lot.  I had to stop taking it.  But it is safe while BF, which is why my doc gave that to me.  But for many people, the mini pill helps them to stop bleeding.  Didn't have that effect on me.....It is a Progesterone only BC pill.

I would call your doc but I would guess that this is just your body trying to get back to normal.  It just takes a while sometimes.

I bled to some degree or another for 8 weeks after having my baby. When I went in for my PP checkup I asked why I was still bleeding/seeing old blood. My doctor told me that if you don't BF at least every 3 hours that you might see break thru bleeding. At the time I was only pumping every 4 hrs so that seemed logical. However, about 2 weeks after I started taking the mini pill and continued to BF I stopped bleeding. My bleeding never got any heavier than for the use of a pantiliner. It was more inconvenient and annoying than anything else. You might want to give your OB a call and let him/her know how often you BF and see if he/she agrees with the info I received. Hope that helps.

My sister bled, on and off, for a few months after one of her daughters was born. If it concerns you, and it has been 8 weeks since she was born, I'd definitely call the doctor to see what they think. It is most likely a hormonal thing.
