QUAD testing and I am totally confused.. PLEASE Help!

So...

I have been reading posts on here in reference to Down Syndrome and the testing offered.. I had Quad ( I think that is what the blood test series was called?!) and they said my "chances" came back WAY below normal and when the OB did my most recent U/S he said he could say that he is 98% sure that my baby does NOT have Down.. How did he know that on an u/s and why wasn't I offered an amnio? I am 21 weeks now, so it would be kindof pointless but I am annoyed that I feel like many of you have all these tests that I HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF?! Wth??

This is what my Dr.'s office told me most recently...

Spinal Defect Chances - (normal risk range 1 in 691)
My results - 1 in 4,900

Down Syndrome Chances - (normal risk range 1 - 270)
My results came back indicating my odds were lower than that. They do not give mathematical results for this one. All they say is I am extremely low risk.

Trisemi 18 or Edward's Syndrome - ( This is physical defects/retardation, chromosomal defects, and low birth weight) at least as I understood. I have never heard of it before.

Odds came back at 1 in a 5,000 chance.

I know these are good but this blood test I ASKED about, they don't offer it.. Am I receiving substandard care?

I can understand what you are going throw but I am having just the oppist problem. My quad test came back positive for down syndrom. They want to do the amnio an all the other tests but I don't want to have them done. I am going in tuesday the 16th for the lvl 2 U/S and that is all I want unless they find something really wrong other then down syndrome.

LauraB as far as I understand Amniocentesis is usually offered if there are some abnormalities on the u/s testing or if you are over 30-35.  It is not mandatory and not all women have it, it is also expensive in some cases.  They stick a horse sized needle in your belly to suck out some amniotic fluid and there are some risks involved by doing that.  If your tests came out well they will probably not offer it to you, nor should you be worried about that specially when that test is so horrible.  You are fine.

They dont normally perform an amnio I believe unless you request and are over the age of 30?? Not 100% sure of that. They can tell by u/s by measurements of features.
I had my quad testing done last week and all they told me was that if i dont hear from them that everything is okay, but I want to know how everytthing does!! maybe they will go over it with me on my next appt I guess....
