Question for anyone prescribed Progesterone Supplements

My Dr. prescribed me progesterone supplements yesterday because my progesterone level at 11 DPO was 13.
I am taking 100mg of Prometrium twice a day. My doctor prescribed me the ORAL pills but told me to insert them VAGINALLY. Does this seem right? The pills seem hard and it's difficult to imagine them dissolving this way??

Since I am taking them vaginally, when I go for my follow up blood test I don't think the supplements will register in the blood since they are going straight to the uterus, right?? I'm just wondering if I should expect my progesterone test to still be low since the supplements are not going through my blood stream?

Anyone have experience with this?

The prometrium is for low progesterone. It does not increase your HCG. As a rule, doctors like to see your Progesterone level above 20, mine was 13.

If you were given prometrium I would suspect your progesterone is also low.

As far as HCG goes, there is such a huge range that you can't diagnose a number as "low" until you have it retested in 2 days and see if the number doubled. I saw on a website (beta base.info- remove the spaces) that the "average" HCG for 11 DPO was 24 so you are basically right there. You should have it tested again though, one result doesn't tell you anything.

At 11 DPO my HCG was 58 and I have another test scheduled for Thursday and the number should be around 650-700 .

Did the Dr tell you your HCG level at the 11 dpo?  I'm curious because I to was put on 200mg vaginaly of prometrium.  My hcg was at 23 and I feel thats low.  I go back on Monday for a re-draw and count again.

Mine are the same as your's Joy. But mine are vaginal. And OMG do they make a mess! I feel like I've leaked all over the place when I get up.

Thank you everyone.

The pills I have are little pink round coated ones with SV imprinted on them.

I've heard about the "mess" they leave but that is not my experience with them at all. When I use the bathroom a few hours after inserting it I get a pink discharge on the TP and a tiny bit of this white discharge/ powdery stuff in my underwear. No real mess at all. I hope they are working = /

When I used the bathroom after inserting them for the first time I had the pink discharge and my heart sank, I thought I was spotting until I realized it was the residue from the pill.

You would think they would make them a different color other than pink.... Geesh!!

I take a 200mg Prometrium pill by mouth. I have heard you can do them vaginally because they are more effective and will give you greater results. Mine are the yellow oval ones imprinted with SV2. If you're not comfortable taking them vaginally then take them orally.

I had to take the same thing.  I even asked that since it was a PILL could I not just swallow it?   They said regardless of pill or not it's bettter vaginally because it absorbs better that way.  Talk about messy though.  I'd insert before going to bed..and wake up the next morning to a mess.  It got even messier the more I moved around.  Definitely wear a panty liner lol.  Anyways, just wanted to share.  Oh and I was only on 100 mg and mine went from 9 to 16 in 4 days :).  Take care.. wishing you all the best in the world. :D

Believe me, you will be able to tell that the progesterone is making it out of the capsule, you will need to wear a minipad.  It's a messy process!  It is true that some progesterone capsules can be taken orally or vaginally, and the reason the doc will have you take them vaginally is that more of the progesterone goes more quickly and directly to the uterus, since it is entering your body closer to the uterus.  But it does it via the bloodstream, it's not like you are squirting some directly onto the uterus or anything, so the progesterone indeed shows up in your blood tests too.

I am on 200mg of Prometrium nightly, vaginal suppository. After 72 hours my levels were up to 20 from 9! So yes, it registers. The capsules are hard that I insert too but they are only for vaginal insertion. So I'm not sure about the ones you are on.
