Risks assoicated with induction at 38+ weeks

I am just wandering what the risks if any there are of getting induced at 38 weeks. I have been having a lot of bleeding and really would like to ask my doctor to induce this week because I am worried if they dont something may be wrong, and that I have had a very difficult pregnancy... I really would like some information and facts that I can use. I want to be able to say I did my research and I want to make sure this is something I can do.

Thanks

u should make a complaint for their *****. i dont think that wat they doin is right. am gettin concerned about u now. i hope u do not bled by now and monday.  once again if u feel somethin isnt right, go back to the hospital. u know best. ur body let u know when somethin is wrong. follow ur instincts. go get some sleep. i check on u in the mornin. hope u feel better. if u see blood lindsey go back to the hospital as soon as possible. i dont want anythin to happen to u or Julian.

Is there any other hospitals within a reasonable driving distance? :( I wish there were something you could do. If I were you, I'd opt to get that baby out asap. And you obviously are. Hospitals and Dr.s can be so uncaring sometimes. I swear. Money is all they care about. Sorry you have to wait it out and worry.
I'll be thinking about you, good luck.

Pinkbelle, what kind of pain were you having when your doctor decided to induce you? I am really nervous and scared to even really get off the couch.... I do know my body that is what concernes me so much. I am really upset and frustrated....

sexyhot_dandy, I would keep going back but they just are more and more ignorant every time and I dont appriciate being treated like that.... I really hope my doctor has a concience and gives me the benifit of the doubt... I really think something may be wrong.....

Thanks for all your support and advice... I am going to go lay down and get some rest.. I am scared to do anything right now...Have a great weekend and I will keep yall posted.

KStarr thank you for your support. I normally wouldnt complain but I just have this wierd feeling ya know... I feel like I was a bother at the hospital and they didnt really want me there nor did they want to do a u/s to make sure it wasnt an abruption. They asked me if I have had a u/s lately and I said my last one was ten weeks ago and they asked me if they said anything about my placenta I said no and they said then it is probably ok.... PROBABLY!!! They need to check it, that is their jobs

I'm sorry. :( You must be so scared.. I would say go for it, if you're bleeding. Better safe than sorry, but only because at late 38 weeks, the b aby is only a little over a week early, and is full-term at 37 weeks. Yes there are risks, but if medical intervention is neccessary, like spade22 said, I would personally think that it would be better than just playing it by ear to see what happens, especially since your doctors never checked you! Your baby may need additional monitoring and perhaps some time in the NICU.. And he/she will be small, since there was no time to stock up on body fat, so they will want to just keep a close eye on your baby but I'd say if you're bleeding that much, then that's a small price to pay, even if you DID end up absolutely needing a c-section [hopefully you won't though] But that's how I would feel in your position..
Good luck.

On Thursday I passed a bright red blood clot about the size of a dime and I was told to go to Labor and Delivery and they just sent me home with instructions to come back if bleeding worsens... Then yesterday I went to the restroom and when I got up the toilet was full of blood. They said it may be a abruption but they never checked me out and sent me home at 1 am. It seems like I bleed at night after not doing nothing all day. They never gave me a definate answer.... My doctor was going to induce at 39 weeks but with the bleeding I am going to ask if he will send me late next week. So I will be late 38 weeks... Do you have any input on what may be causing this?

Induction should only be done when the benefits clearly outweigh the risks which can include increase in fetal distress, infection, and an increased chance of mother requiring a C-Section.  There are several different means of induction and they all have different risk factors associated with them.  For instance, if your bag of waters is broken, baby will need to be delivered in 24h to avoid a C-section, if pitocin is used the contractions tend to be more intense which can cause fetal distress.  With both these methods, you will need continuous fetal monitoring with may require you essentially labor the whole time in bed unless your hospital has telemetry monitoring.

How much bleeding have you had, and what was the cause?  The fact you have had a difficult pregnancy doesn't necessarily warrant an induction unless there is a real medical need.
