Thank you all for your responses. I have a $100 crib that was on sale, i haven't put it together or took it out to look at yet ebcause i heard it's bad luck to do it if you're not almost a month before you're due. So i hope it is good so when i eventually want another kid i can use that.
The best thing you can give your baby is love and attention. They dont need expensive to be happy. I thought the same thing when had my first baby @ 17. Boy was i wrong have the stuff i got wasnt used for more then a month or so and everything i had for him i had to work my butt off to get. I had no one buying stuff for me. 4 more kids later you find me on Craigslist and hand me down stores. Little info expensive isnt always better, i bought an $800.00 crib and it fell apart a year later. Bought a 200.00 crib from baby depot and its awesome using it again when this baby arrives.
I was 16 when I had my first child. Allow people to help you, but be grateful for what they're willing to give. Your child will not know the difference between a $500 crib and a $100 one. Baby things will get sticky and messy and spit up on, top dollar for items, isn't worth it unless you have money to blow.
Even if you are making $30 an hour - I've never actually figured out my hourly wage but I make good money - it's just not economically smart to pay top dollar for things a child will only use for a short time, if at all. I've gotten hand-me-down from friends and family, I search craigslist for good baby gear, and what I don't get from my baby shower I'll buy at a second-hand baby store. This is my first child too, and I will give her only the best...she'll have the most love, the best schools, daycare, and health care I can give her because that's what's important, not that she's in the top-of-the-line playpen or cute shoes.
Prioritize, kids are expensive and your grandma's been through it before so she knows what she's talking about. You're going to have other major expenses so especially given that your expenses are limited, you should be saving your money for more important things.
Thanks guys. I'm not working actually, lol. I just moved to california a month ago from texas and i'm really focused on just passing school so i can graduate next year. But i'll look on ebay
maybe you know someone who will not need tthe stuff anymore? I'm getting a high chair, stroller & car seat from my sister, & try not to stress too much!!
the baby is going to grow out of things fast, believe me when I say that, specially when it comes to clothes, but hey if you are one of the lucky few making $30 hr I recommend you to buy the baby a pony as a birth gift
I know what you mean i have started getting bits here and there where ever i sre a must have bargain i am 19weeks with my 2nd and far less stressful this time round but even though i have had one i am still like will i need that? lol ebay is a good place to get some bargains or amazon as well good luck :-)
I mean i don't mind getting second hand stuff but i can never find a good second hand store to go to. And i guess that since all the ones i've been to don't sell stuff i can use for a baby, i've stopped trying to look.
People often pay more for rubbish as it has a trendy name to it. I got a cot, wardrobe and changing unit for £200/$450 from IKEA and honestly the quality is amazing. The only high name product I have is a silver cross prank as my dad picked it up second hand. I gave it a good clean and it looks brand new.
Everyone does. But a lot of its luxury that isn't needed.
I wasn't trying to sound like a brat. I do know that not everything that is expensive is better. I guess i just feel like since this is my first baby i have to have everything i see at baby's r us. I know i can't have everything and i'll probably use it once and never touch it again. But what i'm really trying to say is that i just want the best for my child.
I am being greatful and i do appreciate what she has done and what others are doing. But i understand what you mean. Thank you.
once you have a baby you start to realise you dont even end up using half of that expensive stuff anyway. Babys dont use things very long at all, so now if I had it to do over again I would use hand me downs as long as they are in safe working condition.
Sorry to say but unless you are paying for it you have to be grateful for what you get and are given. Just because something is cheaper doesn't mean its cheap. There are a ton of good product lines out there. I'm 26 and am getting lots of things at second hand stores. Babies grow fast and grow out of things fast so to spend a ton of money on something that is going to be used for a few months isn't worth the money. Its ok to get things as baby grows andyour baby isn't going to know if something cost $40 or $400. Hope that all makes sense but if everyone else is buying things for you I would just be greatful for that.
It is not at all the more expensive the better you'll find a lot of the more expensive pack and plays and stuff have a lot of "luxury" not at all necessary items. Remember love 300 years ago they didn't have anything like carseats and swings and pack n plays and all of that stuff and they did just fine lol. You'll do great you need essentials and love not a whole bunch of expensive crap. Good luck!!
