At this point if your baby is born most likely he/she will be just fine.  Baby may have to stay in nicu for a few days if the lungs aren't quite mature but at 35 weeks baby has an excellant chance of survival without any lasting affects if born now.

I have Rh- blood and my husband is Rh+.  We have two healthy little girls.  Our oldest is 3 and has Rh+ I got the rhogam shot at 28 weeks then again right after she was born.  Our second daughter is almost a year old and has Rh-. I got the shot at 28 weeks with her and didn't have to get one after birth.

My 3 year old was full them 39 weeks 6 days.  Our 1 year old was 35 weeks to the day.  She was in the NICU for a week...doesn't seem like a long time now.  But it was hard at the time.  She had some respitory issues and had to be on c-pap for 2 days and a breathing tube for 3...she is fine and healthy now, but I think she's going to have athsma... Some babys born at 35 weeks get to go home right afterwards and some don't.  37 weeks is a safe bet, but 40 is even better.

Btw my husbands mother has Rh - blood also and I know at least her 4th and 5th child have Rh + and she never had the rhogam shot, they are all healthy and survived.

Also chances are your baby will have Rh +...unless the father has a parent with Rh -.

My son was born at 32 weeks weighing 4lb 23 oz. I had had the steroid shots and he was fine when he was born; breathing on his own but had to be tube fed. Two days later he suffered complications that led to brain injuries. He now has cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus and autism. I certainly wouldn't consider 32 weeks to be "safe". He had a 2 1/2 week NICU stay before being released.
My second son was born at 37 weeks, a healthy 8lb 10 oz but even then he still had a bit of jaundice, low sugar levels and had some problems with nursing at first. He was in the baby care unit for a couple of days before we were allowed home.
The nearer to the due date the better really for any baby. Special care for preemies has come along way, many survive and many grow up just fine but there are also many kids out there who were preemies who go on to have life long complications.

Rest up, take your doctors advice and don't worry too much about the blood issue. My mom was the same with my sister and as long as the doc's know and are ready with those injections for you/baby that isn't something to worry about. Take it easy and hopefully babe will stay put for a while longer. Good luck.

My friend is a nurse in the NICU in ON and she told me the other day that when and if she has kids, her ideas situation for delivery would be a CSECTION at 36weeks. She said that full term is considered 37 weeks but anything from about 32 weeks on is a pretty safe zone.

Oh yes I have heard of that. My mom has RH- blood, and they had to give her a shot after labor.

She had 3 pregnancies and we all were fine ^_^ Her mother had the same thing, but it was harder back then because they did not know what to do, now they have knowledge about the negative blood and there is precautions they can take.

I would certainly ask your doctor what the best and worst case scenarios are to prepare you for anything they may need to do or any information you may need to have.

One of the immediate tests they run right before your even allowed to have your baby is blood type. At least my hospital does, because it is very important to know.

Well the whole thing with my blood type is that i have a negative blood type and the father has a positive. I had to get a Rhogam shot to make my body ignore the fact that there is something inside of me. They say that sometimes your body will try to kill off the baby because it thinks it is like a parasite or something. It makes me sort of high risk to even get pregnant. They didn't tell me until i was 27 weeks and then i had to wait a week to get the shot. Which is because the shot only lasts 12 weeks. If the baby comes out with a positive blood type then they have to give me another shot because of the blood mixture or something...not really sure on all full details. But it was pretty scary for them to tell me that my body could kill the baby.

If the father had a negative blood type or if i had a positive and he had negative it would be fine. But because of the shot only lasting 12 weeks they would have to induce me at 40 weeks. (As to what i understand)
But seeing how my lil man keeps pushing down on me and already going into labor and the whole yucky mucus thing i dont think i am going to have to be induced. My widwife said the thought that i would probably end up having him at week 37 or 38 anyways. She said he will most likely be atleast 8-8 1/2  pnds. Scary bc i was 6 pnds 2oz. My sister just gave birth to a 5pnd 11oz baby girl...so it seems big to me.

thank for the replies by the way guys :)

I had my little girl at 34 weeks. Started dialating at 32 weeks. I was walking around 80% effaced and 2 cm until the day I turned 34 weeks. I had gotten checked and was 90% effaced and 3 cm dilated. They sent me for an ultrasound and noticed my water was a little low and decided they wanted to induce me.
4 hours later my little girl came out 5lbs 13 oz. She was perfectly fine and they let her come home with me 2 days later.

Usually its best for the baby to ensure they stay in as long as possible just to make sure all there parts are done cookin ~_^

I have had 4 babies born early as follows

1st boy born at 36 weeks no complications came home in 24 hours 6lbs 13.2oz
2nd girl born at 35 weeks no complications came home in 24 hours 5lbs 5oz
3rd girl born at 30 weeks was given celestone shots to help develope her lungs My wawter had broke and I was in the hospital fir almost three days and not had gone in labor. They saiid every day she satayed in me saved her a week in the NICU, 3lbs 8oz came home with no complications in 14 days (is now almost 10 years old)
4th girl born at 23 weeks 2 days I had her due to PROM (as the last two girls before her) She only lived for about 3 hours.

I had preterm labor with all my pregnancies and was on bed rest. I even had dialated with one they stopped my labor and I closed back up. If you are 35 weeks the baby has a good chance although the babies brain is not only about 53% developed and that can effect regulating body temperature, being able to eat suck and swallow all at once, breathing, or being to sleepy to even eat and wearing out to fast to get waht she/he needs. I can tell you that it is scary to have one born early and not knowing how they will be! Even if they look great and come out great does not mean that they will be fine, some crash several hours after birth. I would hold off as long as possible and have them give you celestone shots for the babies lungs just in case you go before 38 weeks and they can not stop you! You have to have two shots 24 hours apart. No it is not too late if the dr's say that! It does help and that is why my 3rd came home so early and healthy. I am not sure why they would not let you go past your due date cuz of your blood type! That makes no since!! I hav enever heard that nor read it. I say that is a weird thing they are ssying becasue they DO NOT like when woman go past 40 weeks and will make up anything to indice before that! I know plenty of rh- woman who never had a problem and one with a blood disorder and one with two types of blod as she had had a bone marrow transplant. Their blood was never an issue.

I know you are anxious to have the baby I am sure but I would nto see you going past 40 weeks woth pre term labor under your belt but the longer you can keep the baby in the better. I am hoping to make it to 40 weeks this time as they found out why I went early, my progesterone is low. Yes my babies who are here did fine and were all premature but it is no fun worriing about RSV and keeping them away from store and people for long periods of time and not letting anyone around who had had a cold for two weeks prior. It is scary and when they came home I watched them close and did not get much sleep.

Well i went into labor last Wednesday which was exactly 35 weeks for me. They did stop it but they said that it the doctor on call said to go ahead and stop it, but that i am on the edge of letting me go or stopping it. But i have lost so much mucus yesterday and today. I think every time i went to the bathroom yesterday there was mucus. YUCKY!!! But they will not let me go past 40 weeks due to my blood type.

This question can not be answered directly  because it depends on the health/development of the baby which is unique in each case.

However, in general 37+ weeks is reasonably safe but babies can still suffer complications.  Most doctors like to have mom deliver at about 40 week provided there are no pregnancy-related problems.  Babies born as early as 25 weeks can survive but risks of complications are very high.  These diminish significantly with each week the mother is able to sustain the pregnancy.

37 weeks is full term and safe to deliver. at 26 weeks, although its not good for the baby to be born this early, his/her chances of survival are 80-90%.

37 weeks is considered full term. I'd still rather have my baby born at 40 weeks, not earlier. Not too late either cause I dont want her to swallow some meconium

Do your Dr's think you are going to have your baby early?

I have a history of preterm labor and my doctors always try to get me to 36 weeks and at that point they told me if I went into labor they would'nt stop it or try to slow it down! they also said that at 37 weeks the baby is not considered pre-mature. I think in most people cases the baby will come naturally when it's ready, and should come in it's own time unless that time is too early! Good luck! most people say the closet to the babys due date the better!

I know myself at 36 weeks they said they wouldnt stop delivery if i went into labour as the baby is almost full term,.they told us form 37  is considered full term.42 weeks being post term.but as joy said there is alot of stigma as to how soon.most doctors would say.is the safest.

The safest is 40 weeks. I did however, have a cousin who gave birth at 24 weeks and the baby lived. She was 1lb 4 oz. So she did live but it was a tough road, 40 weeks is best.

my first was born at 36 weeks. while she did not have to spend time in the nicu, we struggled with feeding issues for months due to her prematurity.

they do not schedule elective c-sections before 39 weeks because there is a significant increase in chance of complications before then. what's the context of the question? that can help determine "safe."

The safest time for a baby to be born is 40 weeks. Pregnancy is 40 weeks for a reason. There is a lot of debate right now on whether the definition of "full term" should be moved to 38 or 39 weeks.

Go read the March of Dimes website, talk to people who've had preemies and you'll find you want your baby to stay in as long as they possibly can for their benefit. Even full term babies can be born too early and have respiratory issues.

From what I understand its 36 weeks, not to say babies dont survive early than that, because they do.however I think most hospital and doctors will say different.
