Seroquel and pregnancy

How safe is 200 milligrams of seroquel while pregnant and nursing? Also, is it dangerous to cut the pills in half to take a lesser dose? Or should you cut or break the pills at all?

I'm 30 weeks along and have been taking increasing amount of seraquel since my 2nd trimester. Im now up to 300mg daily, which seems to be the limit (according to my Dr and motherrisk).
It was a tough decision to take the drug but I honestly believed leaving my bipolar untreated was a lot more risky, for my safety and the baby's.
Ultrasounds so far don't show any signs of deformities but of course I still worry about other effects, mental and emotional.
Even my midwife recommended I stay on the meds. Without them, and therapy I don't know if I would've gotten through those intense months.
I'm happy to report that the mess have helped me a great deal, and I know I made the right decision for me and my family.
Good luck to you other moms-to-be. It's not easy, but you're not alone.

I am 24 weeks pregnant, was on 125 mgs of seroquel and now down to 75. My psychiatrist who works at my maternity clinic says stay on it! My baby girl is doing just fine in there, perfect heart beat and is growing as she should. Discuss it with your dr.

I am on 100 of Seroquel and trying to get pregnant. Before beginning to try I discussed extensively with my very experienced NYC psychopharmacologist whether to stay on the medication through pregnancy. He checked the most recent research and spoke with several other specialists at NYU and all agreed I should stay on the Seroquel.
He directed me to the following site for more info, which is the best resource I've seen on the web...
http://womensmentalhealth.org/

I suggest you check it out and discuss with your own doctors to make the best decision for you and your baby, and hopefully they will instill you with the confidence that mine did in my decision.

Best of luck to all. Wishing you healthy and happy babies(and mommies)!

yes we all know that we shouldnt take drugs during pregnancy but if one has a preexisting medical condition then there is no getting round it. do you know anything about seroquel because it sounds like u dont. this is not a general question about a headache tablet this drug is an anti psychotic and yes we too get pregnant and we must face things that most do not. of course i do not want to harm my baby however if i become unstable from seizing the taking of this medication this can harm my baby even more. would you say the same thing to a diabetic who was pregnant? i think not perhaps b4 jumping to banal generalizations u should some checking .  have u been on this drug? im actually looking for a response from someone who knows from experience rather than **** statements about no drugs during pregnancy.

i was on Seroquel and i stopped my medication before i ever became pregnant. my ob did want to make sure i wasnt taking that medication. one reason why i dont think you should be taking that kinda medication is because its like a tranq and mild sedative. i can only imagin the effects on the baby. you really need to talk to you ob right away

It's a Category C drug, meaning that it's either not safe or there hasn't been enough research to deem it safe in pregnancy and lactation.  I'll attach some info. from my Drug Guide.
