Sex of the baby at 16 weeks....?

I am going tomorrow for an ultrasound and I will be 16 1/2 weeks.  I know it is possible to find out  the sex of the baby by now but when I asked my doctor if he thought they would be able to tell he said "Maybe"  so my question is...

How many of you have had an ultrasound at 16 weeks and they couldn't tell the gender?  And why?  Was it because the baby was not in the right position or because it just wasn't clear enough yet?

If the technology is up to date and your little one co-operates then yeah you should be able to tell what sex the baby is. I cant believe you are 16 weeks already it only seems like a few weeks ago you posted that you got your BFP!!!! Blimey time flies dosent it!

My best friend is an Ultrasound Tech and she said the earliest she's been able to tell the Sex was 13 weeks!! I was like WHAT!? But she said its rare...the baby just happened to be spread eagle and it was very obvious. But I'm sure if it was a girl they wouldn't have been able to tell. But she's told a couple boys at 13 weeks and than she said they normally confirm the sex at 15 weeks! So I definitely think you'll be finding out tomorrow! YAY! Can't wait to hear what you're having!!

I got a gender "guess" at about 16w and the baby wasn't showing  the goods well enough. he kept hiding. Doc's first guess was girl since we didn't see any boy goods, but then the baby flipped around (Thanks to me moving my stomach around!) and we saw what looked like a boy's parts.  Later on it was verified via amnio and another u/s to be all male!

that makes me so excited.  I have a feeling it's a boy.  Guess we will just have to wait and see.  I had a dream lastnight it was a boy....With my son I KNEW the night before it was a boy....I dind't even need to ultrasound.  This time i'm not so positive.

Rachie, you can definitely tell... so long as baby cooperates and the equipment isn't from the 90's! LOL!

yay...i really hope they can tell.  I dont go to my doctor I actually go to a different doctor who i assume has the best equipment and techs (for the screening)  so hopefully it will go well.  Hubby and I both want a girl just because we already have a boy...but we will be very happy either way. At this point I just want to know.  I'm going to be crushed if we get there and they cant tell.  :(  Waiting 4 more weeks is gonna stink.  LOL   My 4 year old son on the other hand is really wanting a boy.  So in that sense I want him to be happy as well.  I know God will bless us with what ever he sees fit for our family.  I'll update yall tomorrow afternoon and let everyone know the results.  My appointment is at 9:30 but I doubt i'll have time to get on until about 4:30 or so.  Wish me luck!!!

I've seen a few ladies on these forums who found out at 15 weeks.  I think it depends on how skilled the ultrasound tech is and how cooperative the baby is.  Like you said, sometimes the baby's not in the right position.  Also, boys are easier to point out than girls!!
