Sick while pregnant

Ok so I'm a little over 13 weeks pregnant now and I have had an upper respiratory infection for 2 weeks now an dit won't go away.  My doctor can't give me anything besides sudaffed and benadryl he siad because i'm pregnant. My OBGYN won't see me for anything othewr than the baby until i'm 20 weeks pregnant, this is just how the military works here. Do you ladies have any suggestions on how to get rid of this infection without hurting my baby. This is miserable!!

I hear ya Britany. I am 11 weeks and have been sick for the last 3 weeks with a cold that will not go away. I don't think I can get rid of it on my own at this point and I think I need to get some antibiotics. I hope you feel better soon.

Most antiobiotics are not harmful during pregnancy.

Yeah, I've heard that about the military.  You have to be like dying I've heard.  I work with this guy that had to go to the dentist while he was in the Army.  He said it was awful!!  I can only imagine.  But geez, after 2 weeks of being sick, you'd think they'd think that's long enough for you to suffer.  In my opinion, if it doesn't go away on its own, or at the very least start getting better, you need an antibiotic.  I mean how do they know it's not going to turn into pnemonia (sp??)?  That would be much worse.  And that Z Pak works really quickly.  And it's not expensive.  I think with my insurance, I pay like $10 dollars for it.  And even without insurance, it's not that much.  My pharmacy always puts what the insurance has saved you and it's not much for that medicine.  Surely the government can fork over $20 or $30????!!!!!

I probably should beg but they just really suck over here!! Their way to make anything better that has to do with pregnancy is drink more water and then come back in a couple of days!!!! Water is the military's excuse for everything

Sorry about that last question.  As my comment was posting, I saw that you had said you had been sick for 2 weeks.  That's a long time.  If you don't get better really soon, I'd beg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I really hate that for you.  I have had my doctor since I was 15.  I'm now 32.  And I have been lucky in that he has delivered all 5 of my kids.  I trust him with my life.  He's like family.  Ha ha!!  He's given me more than one kind of antibiotic while I've been pregnant and my kids are all healthy.  But I guess every doctor is different.  You'll notice that even just by being on this forum.  But sometimes you really need an antibiotic to get rid of it.  How long have you been sick??

Well, that really stinks because I know they can give you antibiotics while you are pregnant.  Have you ever heard of the Z Pak???  It's a five day antibiotic and you are able to take it while you are pregnant.  I took it with my last one.  It's wonderful and works very quickly.  I would definitely use a humidifier.  It will help to break up the stuff in your chest.
