Sickness with twins

I am almost 15 wks with twins and can't keep anything down. I mean anything. Crackers, water, nothing.   My dr put me on home care so I can get IV fluids at home, because I had to go to the er twice due to excessive vomiting.  I have been off work for three weeks now because the vomiting is so bad.  And now I am getting really dizzy like I'm going to pass out.  Has anyone else been this sick before and if so does it ever stop? I just want to start enjoying my pregnancy.

When I was pregnant with my twins I was always vomiting, always had heart burn & kept getting dehydrated. I was put on bed rest at 14w then was admitted into the hospital for the remainder of my pregnancy because they said that my babied were suffering from twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) I had my daughters at 25w gestation. They were in the NICU for 3 months n came home on oxygen n monitors . A year later still dealing with it all

It all depends . Not every twin pregnancy is the same . Hope everything starts to get better for you

For me, weeks 5 to about week 13/14 were the worst.  I was still very sick until about week 20 but I was progressively getting better by that point.  I hope that sickmamma92 only has a short period of time left to feel this way.  For me, once I got to week 15, I could finally start my count down to when I was going to feel better...just in time to start getting huge!!!

I will say though, around weeks 15-17 it usually gets worse for women, so if it seems really bad that could be why.

I have had 7 children and have had HG with all of them.  I was hospitalized w/ the previous 2.  It sounds like your doctor is being proactive w/ the at home IV fluids.  My doc was going to do that but I just couldn't afford it.  But if you are not already, you should be on some type of anti-nausea medicine.  For me, it didn't help a whole lot as far as taking the nausea away.  But I didn't throw up as many times per day if I had it versus me not having it.

For me, the only thing that worked was time.  It took me until I got about to week 20 before I finally started feeling somewhat human again.  Then I went to every buffet I could find for about a week.  I was so happy to be able to eat and just smell food again.  Shampoo, soap, lotions...anything w/ a scent made me so sick.

There are some women that suffer from HG throughout their pregnancy, but that is a lot less common than having it through the first trimester.  I did have mine longer than that but I didn't have it the entire time.  So there is hope and it looks like you will be hitting that "magic" mark hopefully soon.  I hope being pregnant w/ twins doesn't prolong your condition.  I will be praying that it doesn't.  I am so sorry.  I know how horrible this is.

That's at least one advantage... I can't even imagine being that sick and up chasing a toddler or young child.

Yes I have had three pregnancies before but miscarried them and I never even knew until I miscarried.   So I'm trying to do my best to relax and make the best but its so hard being sick all the time

I don't know that it's normal... Because being that sick in my mind isn't even close to 'normal' but it does occur in pregnancy for some. Just take it easy and do what you have to to get through each day. Are these your first?

Oh I make up for it when I can eat because I feel like I've been starved.  But I just get so frustrated on my bad days because I'm told its normal and there's nothing to be done about it.  And thank you:)

And you'll still have good days - on the days you do feel good, make the most of it. If you eat meat and aren't a vegetarian, try to make sure you're getting chicken in or nuts and such for protein. You can also try Ensure drinks and see if those will stay down. Eat any foods that stay down for now.

And then it's like one day I'll feel fine and be able to eat, but the next day I go right back to vomiting and it last 3-4 days.   So I really don't know :(

That's moronic. I'm friends with several people (ill see if they will post here for you) who had HG and still gained weight, though around the end.

My dr said it couldn't possibly be hyperemisses because when I went in I weighed three lbs heavier, only because of the clothes I was wearing.   People keep telling me it's what I'm eating that is causing me to throw up, but I am glad to know its not.  And that it actually is something.   Thank you all for the help.   Maybe my dr will notice that I'm not gaining weight next time I go in and she might do something.  But around where I live most people fake being sick to get out of work.  But I am one of those people who loves working and hates not being able to do things, but I told her I couldn't work because I can't be throwing up all day and work when I am super weak (I work at a grocery store)

It's not stupid, like I said it isn't well known. It's called Hyperemesis gravidarum.

i was pregnant with twins in 08 and although i lost my babies at 21 1/2 weeks due to ttts and incompatent cervix, i was very sick as well the entire time up until i had them throwing up everything i ate and drank. luckily my dr had me on zofran and phenegrin( however that is spelled) both of those together worked for me, i still got sick a few times a day but wasn't as bad, usually i would through up everything i ate the first time and have to turn around and eat again right after and was able to keep it down the second time. good luck and definitely get a new dr if yours isn't too concerned with anything other than keeping you hydrated or asked to be seen by a high risk specialist.

The only high risk dr is about an hour away. And I have an appointment with her in jan.  if it is still bad then I will talk to her about it and see what she suggests.   And this is going to sound really stupid but what exactly is HG?

I was only able to eat once a day or every other day with mine. I was only carrying one so it wasn't so bad. She came out a healthy 6 pounds 12 ounces, but it wrecked havoc on my own body. The worst part was the guilt - not many people understand HG and kept saying eat!! It'll make it better! And it doesn't.. The thought of food, the smell.... It made it so much worse. And then a midwife I saw said I was starving my baby and being selfish and made me feel like an awful person when I did everything I could to keep food in.

It WILL get better though. Try not to look far into the future, focus on today only. If your doctor isn't taking your concerns seriously, change doctors. If you do have HG, it's not something to fool with and needs to be taken very seriously. I wouldn't wish on anyone, it's a horrible thing to go through. It made it to where I'll never be able to have children again because the trauma (mentally and physically) were too much to handle.

Yes your babys will get wat they need but its your health that then becomes at risk. i was seeing a high risk ob and he constantly monitored me with bi weekly appointments n growth scans you got 2 in u tho so they may b more at risk idk but if your doctor is not acting concerned n you r worried i would find a new 1

I thought in the Begining I was going to be ok with sickness, but the farther along I get it seems the worse it gets.  They have me off zofran now because there was no point in spending all the money on something that doesn't work.  I'm glad I'm getting the hydration but is it really true the babies will take what they need from me.  Even if I am not eating? And I do try to eat but just end up throwing it right back up.

You poor thing some women have it really bad n i actually was thankful that all i needed was zofran. i hope it gets better for u. i wasn't one of the women who lost tons of weight or anything i just was on zofran as often as needed n phenegrin sry for the spelling. Unfourtantly if ur on n iv pump n zofran too n thats not working i dnt no wat will for u sweetie. the next doc might suggest the same thing. Like the previous post said u might end up in the hospital if it remains that bad its a terrible sickness n i no how u feel.

Today I have been up since 3:30 am vomiting and all my dr has them doing is an Iv fluid drip to keep my hydrated.  I'm worried my little ones aren't getting the nutrients they need.   I am still taking my prenatals and by the grace of God am able to keep them down.  But I'm still really worried.  I don't know if I should stay with my dr or look for a new one.

It sounds like HG to me too. It's also what I had as well, it's horrible. You could end up hospitalized if it doesn't get better.
