Having the same problem! I quit smoking cigs however my fiance smokes black and milds. So after two weeks of not smoking at all I gave in to cravings and asked him to let me hit the black and mild. Now I'm having a hard getting my mind set to quit. I know I have to quit. It's very hard. Idk what to do.

Thats not true and misleading , to use a low dose 10mg patch for the say first week to ween yourself off tobacco is ok and is far much better than smoking . The ideal would be to stop straight away but doing that has poorer long term succsess rates. The smoke is as harmful if not more as the nicotene it robs the baby of oxygen !!  I wouldnt be as concerned being on a low mg patch for a week or two to have a better chance of succseeding  as i would be smoking , its the way alot of midwives ect recommend initially to stop smoking  . Agree long term is'nt recommended . to have a monitered and organised plan with midwife , nurse is important and more succsessful. Women shouldnt be put off from short term from patch or gum ect if it stops them smoking. Its far better for baby and mother than smoking .

A few years back I read a book called "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" it explains what a confirmed smoker is, and that's someone who says they want to quit and can't but the truth is this person doesn't want to, they enjoy it to much...theres a big difference between a confirmed smoker and one who truly wants to quit. I smoked since I was 12, I read this book and literally stopped smoking after I read the last page and closed the book. I did great for 2 yrs until my bf dragged me back in by smoking around me all the time....fast forward 3yrs, the dr called and said I'm pregnant and cold turkey for my baby I quit again and will never look back. My bf has been telling me he will quit for the baby, but he's a confirmed smoker he says he can't but he simply won't because deep down he loves lighting up. You can do it, be strong for your health and your baby's. Good luck!

Stopping smoking during pregnancy is a confusing issue.

In pregnancy,  its the nicotine in the cigarette that causes problems,  not the smoke itself,  for the baby.  Nicotine causes blood vessels to shrink so the placenta is smaller in women who use nicotine,  so the baby gets fewer nutrients.  Babies born to heavy smokers are  usually in the 6 pound range because they have had less food.

If you stop smoking but continue to use as much nicotine through a patch or an ecig,  you are in the same exact place for the baby.

Once the baby is born,  though,  second hand smoke is a huge factor and using a patch or ecig would be much better for the baby.

I was the same and i joined a no smoking programme that the hospital midwife offered. I did it with help from patches and nicorette inhalator , and really it is hard but you can do it . Dont forget nicotiene is one of the most powerful and addictive drugs there is and people that dont smoke hav'nt a clue how hard it is. I would say get support eg a group ect and have help from patches , gum ect. Set yourself a goal and go for it . Dont think i would have done so well doing it on my own i needed that extra help.  Every craving passes and will get less with time , i just think what i GAIN for me and my  baby by not giving in to the craving and it seems to work . Good luck

Consult with your doctor about it. Try to easily ween yourself off of it. It's not going to be easy like it was for others but try to find a support group to help you. I'll help the best way I can
