Spotting, No Period?

Hello, last month instead of my period I experienced brownish spotting--it started a day before my period usually begins (though it has started a day early before), and only lasted 2-3 days at most.  It only appeared when I wiped.  It seemed odd but I assumed it was just a light period (no pain or anything unusual like that).  This month, my period is late--only by 2 days, but in light of the weird period from last month I took more notice.  I have had unprotected sex using the withdrawal method (reliable... I know...) along with birth control pills with fairly consistent use--I wouldn't describe it as "perfect" use, but it's rare that I miss.  I recently switched from Yaz to Gianvi, maybe around 3 months ago.  I know this certainly could cause changes in my cycle, but it seems as though if that were the reason it would have happened the month I switched, not several months later.  I have been under a lot of stress because of my job, so I know that also could be a factor.  Do you think it's worth it to take a pregnancy test?  I don't know that I've had many typical pregnancy symptoms (no nausea, fatigue, breast pain, back pain etc., though I have been sensitive to smell), but I'm looking for other opinions.  Any healthcare professionals want to advise?  Thanks!

Hmm, thank you.  My prescription for the BC actually ran out this month (in the process of switching doctors due to a move), and once I stopped taking the pill I did get a full period.  I think it might have been a bad reaction to the generic pill.  Both months I took the generic (both right after I switched and the second month too), I had barely any period at all, but once I stopped taking the pills I got a regular (heavy, even) period.

There always runs the possibility since BC is not 100% effective.  What you are describing could have been implantation bleeding, change in cycle, been effected by diet changes or illness, etc.  Cycle changes can be for a number of reasons, but while on BC you should have too many alterations since it's not a real cycle anyways.  How was your cycle right after you switched?  If your first cycle was normal and then the 2nd cycle is when you had the changes, that could indicate a few things.  Pregnancy, cysts, poor reaction to the new pill.  BC can also effect the accuracy of an HPT.  If you are having absolutely no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever, I would probably still take the HPT.  My main concern is that is you ARE in fact pregnant, continuing to take the pill can effect the baby.  If you have more concerns, I would contact your Dr asap.
