Terrified of having hyperemesis again

I found out on December 10th that I am pregnant with my second child.while my husband and I are excited, I am also terrified that I will experience hyperemesis AGAIN!?With my son,I was puking before I missed my period.I am now approx. 6 wks and have not puked but the queasies are definetly setting in.Has anybody out there suffered severe hyperemesis during one pregnancy but managed to avoid it with another?i was hospitalized during my 7th and 11th week with my son and on Zophran,Phenergan, and Reglan for the first 27weeks of my pregnancy.Fortunately,i had a healthy 9lb baby boy and although we are excited for #2,i am even more nervous that it could be "that bad" again, and could literally start anyday now....please help if anyone can relate!thanks!

I have had 7 children and both genders and unfortunately, I have to say, I get Hypermesis every time!!  It's terrible and one of the worst things I have ever experienced.  But I have known people that have experienced severe sickness with one and nothing with another.  So you may be one of the lucky ones.  I wish you the best of luck with it.  I know it is just terrible and hard to understand if one has not experienced it.  Def much different than your average morning sickness.

Don't hesitate to get meds if you need them.  I have been hospitalized with my last 2 pregnancies because of it.

The best advice I can give is to take it one day at a time and don't look too far into the future. I also hope you'll stick around throughout your pregnancy and birth as well. I personally found that support was the best thing I could have.

You need to get in to see your doctor and get on meds ASAP. That is the only way.they know of to reduce the severity of hyperemsis: to be treated preventatively before it sets in. Good luck.

I had it with my first and was sick constantly until the day I delivered she's 4 now then with my second who's 2 I didn't get sick until the second trimester and it only lasted until the third trimester and wasn't too bad. Now I'm expecting our 3rd and if I didn't have a bad gallbladder that's being removed in a couple of weeks I wouldn't have thrown up at all. Good luck.

I contacted my Doctor immediately and I was told that nothing I couldn't have an ultrasound until 8wks and that if I started to get sick to come in for meds.I guess im almost paranoid that something could be wrong bc I have NOT been sick yet.I think im going to go in to have my hormone levels tested asap bc jan 10 sure does seem like a long time from now to see my baby and just hope until then that everything is ok.i told myself I would never be pregnant again bc it was SO AWFUL,but nevertheless,here we go!!so far,so good!thnx for the advice and im so sorry for your loss.

I've been pregnant twice, but my second ended in a very early miscarriage. With my daughter I also had severe hyperemesis and was on anti-nausea medicines (Zofran and Phenergan) 4x a day for 7 months. I didn't end up hospitalized (that would have happened if the medicine didn't work) but I did have to go in a few times for hydration. I had hyperemesis with her from weeks 5-39 and it lasted a few weeks while my hormone levels dropped. With my second, I was only around 4 weeks or so (I hadn't had a cycle in a year and a half, so I don't know how far I was for sure) and had already started having severe nausea/vomiting again. It's awful, and I really feel for you. It's one of the reasons my husband was sterilized. Since you've had it before, it's important to contact your doctor immediately. I know of nothing that will prevent it, but early treatment might help reduce the severity.
