The line down the middle...

Hey, well I was just wondering because I've heard alot of people talk about the "line down the middle" which is referring to the dark vertical line coming down from the belly.  One of my co-workers wanted to see my belly and she said, "oh, yea the line down the middle, it's probably a boy..."which I don't ever believe those, but I have heard many women talk about the line down the middle.What exactly does that signify?? Do ALL pregnant women get it. I could've sworn I've always had that line, it just got a little bit darker. But is it anything to do with the gender of the baby or just happens to when you're pregnant??

I have thin white hairs going down to my belly button and from there, the hair is a little darker in color.. i shaved it off a couple times and it was still very slightly darker than the skin beside it.. Since it's not real dark, i don't bother with it now because i kind of like it there. :P And i'm only 14 weeks now.

I had it and I had two girls. Has nothing to do with gender, everything to do with those wonderful pregnancy hormones!!!

Are you referring to hair or an actual line of dark skin?

That's not necessarily true, I have the line down the middle... I've had it my entire life. From the crease of my breasts all the way down to my naval and then a thicker line from my naval to my "girl". Growing up my mom called it my "happy trail"

its a hormonal thing  not much to do with the gender...most women get this and often a lil hair too ...lol....goodluck

mmm, I've always had a faint line, but it started getting darker when i was around like 5 weeks

Ohhh okay...yea it seems like mine got a bit darker...lol a natural tattoo!

Its called the Linea Nigra and most people get it during pregnancy. Its caused by hormones and can be lighter or darker depending on your skin type. It has nothing to do with the sex of the baby since again it is do to hormones. There really isn't any reason for it... its just one of the fun things about pregnancy.... like pregnancy brain for instance! And although it goes down the center of your belly from top to bottom it isn't always straight... since my kinda curves to the left once it gets to my belly button. :)
