Told twins at 30 weeks then next day

Hey everyone so I wanted to update you all. I had a ultrasound done at L&D at 30 weeks because they couldnt find my daughters heartbeat. Well they were doing the ultrasound and said there is TWO BABIES. And a placenta was on the bottom right and a Placenta was on the top left. And the heart rates were different... So when I got discharged they said go to your doctor and have them do a scan to check both babies out. Because I was told there was only one by my doctors office. Well I went there the next day and my doctor did a ultrasound and said he could only see one baby. And not only that he said well I see a BOY in there. I said what are you talking about. I am pregnant with a girl. and then he looked again and said oops sorry its a girl. But I dont get how 3 nurses and 3 doctors at L&D could see two babies and two placentas and my doctor couldnt. I am now 33 weeks pregnant. I still think what if my doctor dont know. And there is really two babies.. I know ultrasounds can be misleading. but to be told twins and then told only one the next day that is crazy. and being 30 weeks pregnant how could the doctors at L&D make a huge mistake like that. I measure big still too. I just hope that I dont go to have my daughter and then be told OH MY HERE COMEs ANOTHER BABY. That will make me mad at my doctor who I trust. Sorry I could go on and on. But just wanted to update.

I found a place to do a ultrasound. They wont be able to diagnose anything. However they did say if they can see two babies they will take pics of the babies for me. Which I think is pointless. I want my doctor to do another one. I think That I am just going to call the head person at the clinic and tell them what my concerns are. I dont want to find out in labor that there is two babies in there.

Well the private imaging center I go to has a doctor on staff who reads results. They are all certified. I think you just have to do your homework and find someone that is licensed and can provide results. The technicians themselves cannot diagnose anything but a doctor can. If there's a doctor at the private place you're good to go.

This would be maddening to me - to still not know how many babies you are going to have - can you go back to L&D for another ultrasound or get them to send the pictures that showed two to your OB to look at from before?  I mean, at this point, you'd think it'd be pretty hard to miss 2 babies in there.

It might make you feel better if you find another OB that is willing to give you another opinion.  I would NOT go to a private ultrasound clinic.  Those are NOT certified to diagnostic results.  It could be the u/s equipment L & D uses is newer and more sophisticated than what your doctors office has.  If it really concerns you...speak with your doctor and tell him what your concerns are.  If nothing gets resolved before you go into labor I would DEFINATELY explain all this to your ob nurses.

Yeah i would def bring the twins up when you go to the hospital when you are in labor so they can double check. better to be safe than sorry.

You'd need to first confirm twins and then find a doctor or midwife who supports vaginal twin delivery. You can watch YouTube vids of vag twin births as well. I'm off to bed! Hope all this helps. You may also want to read Your Best Birth, especially the chapter on building your support team. The book is by Ricki Lake & Abby Epstein.

Well to give you peace of mind vaginal twin birth is very possible and many doctors and midwives do this. So if you're worried about needing a cesarean in case you are having twins I just want to encourage you that if you want a vag birth you can still get one.

Hey I just dont get how one place said twins and the other place says one. Just weird if you ask me. And I get kicks down low on the sides and up high all day long. My insurance wont let me change doctors this late in pregnancy or I would. And from what I know we dont have a place here that does ultrasound that tell you gender or anything like that. I did go to a place for free at 27 weeks and they said it looked like two but couldnt tell me for sure. And L&D said twins and my doctor said nope only one. Just weird. really weird. Hubby thinks when we go into labor that Two babies is going to come out. I just hoope what ever it is if there is one or two that the baby or babies are healthy

Try going to a private ultrasound clinic to get a third opinion such as one a friend went to. For gender it depends if you little one was co-operating at the time or not. Also it does not happen much, but some people still get told one gender and then the baby comes and it is the other.

It is a little far a long, but if you are not comfortable with your doctor maybe look into another one. I did that when I told the one I was seeing that I had a miscarriage already and she just said go for your blood work then see my again in 6 weeks and did not seem to care.

For twins you should be able to tell by when the baby kicks if they are active. You can poke them to see if you get a reaction or not. Weight is different in all women. You cannot really go by that for how many babies.
