Trying to conceive.

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 4 months now but have never used protection.  I am 33 years old and will be 34 in July with no kids, my husband has 2 girls from his previous marriage.  We have been married for 4 years now and active for 6 years with no protection (I figured, if it happens it happens, I know this man is my man, starting a family with him would be the natural progression of things).  Once he gave me the green light that he would like to start a family with me, I downloaded an app on my phone (In January) to track my ovulation, started researching and doing things that make you more fertile and have been putting them into action for the four months that we have been trying.
I ALWAYS have had a 27 - 28 day cycle and this month... I was late for 6 days (And VERY excited).  This morning I noticed blood that seems like my usual first day of my cycle.  My breasts have been intensely painful for 10 days, I have been very tired and hungry.  I have taken 3 home pregnancy tests and all were negative.  I did the first morning urine as suggested.  My tests were the day after my missed period, again 2 days later.  I thought it was the test (First Response) so I went and bought another test the next day (Clear Blue Easy, digital) and it was still negative. I had made up my mind to test again by this Wednesday but woke up today to a very light "flow".  I have researched the implantation bleeding, thinking that may be it, but that is usually around the time of your expected period and is very light "spotting" as I have read?  I really felt like I was pregnant but now feel like I was regrettably wrong.  I even had to throw up the Thursday before my regular cycle, and then after I did, I felt just fine.  That was VERY strange for me because I have never thrown up and felt just fine after... I always feel sick for at least a day after throwing up.
I am currently trying to get insurance coverage as my job doesn't offer insurance.  My husband's job offer's insurance but adding me would be about $600/month. (Which would be pretty much all of my monthly income.)  Going to a doctor is not an option at this time so I was hoping someone here could shed some light on my situation.  I welcome any advice or similar stories to ease my mind.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Ok, thank you for clarifying. I totally understand the excitement that you have now being late with your cycle. The first thing I want to say is DON'T LOSE HOPE! You can definitely still be pregnant. Several people have light spotting around the time of their cycle and end up pregnant. I would test maybe tomorrow if you still have light bleeding or if it goes away completely. If your cycle actually starts, the second thing I want to say is DON'T LOSE HOPE! We've been trying for a little over a year and have began the fertility process. It is a draining one, but one that I absolutely have NO control over. So far everything has been good with the exception of low progesterone. I know insurance is a big deal but as soon as you get it, go and begin the fertility process because if there is something wrong, you'd rather know sooner than later. If I read correctly I think you've mentioned that your husband has insurance. I feel that he should at least go to his provider and have them order a semen analysis to check him in the meantime. You are very young still so if there is any issues you have time to get them corrected. Also, try OPKs so you can make sure you're having sex around your most fertile time.

That is helpful, BreymanCoen.  I will talk to the insurance people tomorrow.  We have decided that no matter the cost... it's worth it.  We will just work that much harder to try to afford the healthcare that is absolutely necessary.  (An evil necessary but a big one none the less.)
Congratulations on your expected joy... I will be praying for a smooth birth for you and your family.  I will update when more information is known.. (My cycle got heavier as the night wore on... seems like it is in fact my period that was 6 days late.)  We are heartbroken but counting our blessings that we have time to "get right" before we try again.

Thank you, Swtshae.  Very encouraging and helpful.  My husband came home and said this is the nudge we needed to do this right.  It wasn't enough to just say "Let's have a baby" and then "start trying".  He is going to have their insurance person call me tomorrow to get the ball rolling for me to get covered through his plan at work.  I will see what it does tomorrow... if it lessens or turns into my normal (or heavier) cycle.  I have been cramping all evening like it is a regular cycle.  I'm sorry to hear about your conception troubles.  Best of luck to you and your husband, I will follow your progress on here and thank you so very much again for your helpful information.  I did have insurance for a stint about 2 years ago and had that doctor test my levels and she said everything looked normal (estrogen, progesterone, hormones).  She also told me that I should see a fertility specialist to be sure.  I will talk to the insurance people tomorrow and start that ball rolling.  <3 XO

I don't know it this will help or not but figured I would share. I had a son 10 years ago, tomorrow, & have been in 2 serious relationships where bc was not needed & never conceived. It wasn't til 2008 I found I had a thyroid disorder, blah blah blah lol & started treatment, had my mess changed about 3-4 times to lower my TSH. I am now pregnant & due July 2nd. I have read healthy women with even a slightly higher TSH level, over 1 even, have a harder time conceiving. Just food for thought. Good luck & keep your head up!! :-)

You are correct, Swtchae.  Never used protection...  Never had any close calls... this was the closest call. We have been having unprotected sex for 6 years and nothing.  I assumed that I just can't have children.  This is why this new development of being 6 days late was SO encouraging.

My app for ovulation tracking was downloaded in Janurary (Husband said on New Year's... "let's really try this year, lets grow our family) and has verifyied that my cycle has been 27 - 28 days... I was supposed to start April 11th.  I woke up this morning (April 16th) to more than spotting, I have filled 3 very thin panty liners on the front half over 6 hours time today.

If I have a full flow tomorrow, I will know it is in fact my period and it was 6 days late for the first time in my life. (From age 12 to now, age 33)  It has swayed a day or two here and there over my life time but NEVER 6 days.

Hi. I just want to make sure I understand you correctly. You've never used protection since you've been married but recently (the past 4 months) have been purposefully trying to conceive? If that is the case, as soon as you get insurance I would schedule an appointment with an OB. Let me first start out by saying I am NO expert. The average time period it takes to conceive within your age range is at least a year. If you guys have never used protection then that year is definitely up if not pass due and I think you should have become pregnant already. However, if I've misinterpreted your post I apologize and suggest that you maybe try to use OPKs or temp or something to try to conceive and once the year is up and you haven't conceived yet, then make an appointment. Good luck!!!

The average is about a year to conceive for most couples.  The best thing I can tell you is that you need to try every other day from CD10-24.  that was the actual script that my fertility dr gave to my husband.   Its still early in your trying so they won't send you to get testing for fertility yet (you have to be actively trying for at least a year for that) but you can start temping and keeping a log.    It'll help you narrow down when you ovulate and that can help too.
I had regular cycles until I had a miscarriage and then every month I got disappointed when the test was negative but i was still late.  best thing is to try and let go of the stress too of trying.  its only going to make it that much harder.

Has anyone been through something similar with good results?  I would LOVE some similar stories... I am really distraught and upset.  I honestly thought I could not get pregnant, then this close call, then nothing.  I feel like I am back to square one of not being able to conceive.  Coming up on my 34th birthday with never even a close call.. this is the closest call I have had and now I am on a very light flow 6 days late.  Maybe time will be my only comfort if this is not what I think it is...
