Tylenol Codeine While Pregnant

I am about 24 weeks pregnant and I have an extremely infected tooth that is causing me so much pain, I can barely eat or sleep. My dentist office couldn't get me in to get it pulled for about 2 weeks. They gave me Tylenol codeine for the pain and said I could take it every 4 hours as needed, and I have been. EVERY 4 hours because the pain is just that bad. Is that okay for the baby? I keep thinking "that can't be good to constantly have that in my system" but the pain is so excruciating that i need it every 4 hours. I'm getting a little worried because I have so long to go until I get it pulled. Should I stop taking it so much or am I okay?

Yes he did give me an antibiotic and I have been taking it for 6 days now but I still have terrible pain. Not so much today but It usually hits me right after I eat dinner. I never wanna eat anything because of the pain but I know I have to (being pregnant and all). I was wondering about alternating between Tylenol and Tylenol Codeine, because even if it doesn't hurt a lot, I still take the Tylenol Codeine because I'm afraid the pain will come back. So from now on when it doesn't hurt to bad I will just take regular Tylenol. Thank you! (:

Tylenol is ok to take while pregnant. It isn't in the same category as ibuprofen, which will increase the risk of bleeding. Tylenol #3 (Tylenol with codeine) is classified as a narcotic and can cause constipation. If you do take it, make sure you drink lots of water and take it only as directed. You may want to take it with food because it might upset your stomach. Or you could alternate between regular Tylenol and the Tylenol #3. For instance, take regular Tylenol at 8am and 4pm. Then take the Tylenol #3 at noon and before bed. Hope this helps and I hope your tooth feels better. :-)

I hope your dentist also prescribed an antibiotic because that will make the pain go away within 2-3 days. Before I even was seen by my dentist they required a not from my OB stating what medications they were allowed to use as well as a permission slip basically to perform dental checkups and fillings/extractions, my wisdom teeth got infected and caused alit if pain but they wouldn't give me any pain meds just told me to take Tylenol.

Did he give you an antibiotic? That always helps with tooth infections for me. It doesn't take the pain away completely but it helps.

My doctor had given me that when I was in the hospital for my kidneys so I'm pretty sure you can but I would still call and let your doctor know

A Dentist who knows you are pregnant, will not give you any medicine that isn't safe to take.
