UTI sympotms with Dehydration

I recently went to the ER for painful and frequent urination and cramping. They did a urine sample, a culture, and an ultrasound. They said  everything was fine. the only thing they found was some red blood cells in my urine. The doctor prescribed me macrobid anyways...I havent taken them yet because it has almost completely gone away. I have been gorging myself with water, so i am hoping that it was only because i was dehydrated. Any suggestions? Should I take the macrobid anyways?

Hey I had the same problem a few weeks ago and I am seriously prone to UTI's and I also go to a military base (Nellis) her in Las Vegas. I know that the macrobid is terrible (it made me sick a few times) but UTI's in pregnant women can cause serious complications. Take the antibiotics because it is not worth the risk and the extra antibiotics are not going to hurt you. A lot of the times UTI symptoms can come and go but you don't want to go into preterm labor because of this terrible problem. I hope you feel better soon =)

Oh that stinks then :(. I would say it's not known to be harmful...I mean you can always wait a few days and see if the symptoms come back, and start the course then. It's frustrating, isn't it? I was like...my white cells aren't elevated, so why am I getting an antibiotic?! And they said my urine was "clear of everything"....love it, don't you? I flushed with water too and it seems to have worked...

I go to the OB clinic on a military base, so they dont really care about what we think. It really ***** because they would just prescribe anything to you and tell you that its ok. I hate taking pills even when i wasnt pregnant.

I know exactly what you're going through...I have a history of kidney stones and UTI (with pregnancy and without) and I went in for blood in my urine and back pain...and they said that my urine was clear (no infection) and everything else looked fine..but that because of the blood they prescribed macrobid as a preventative. I did NOT take it, and I think I should have. So far everything's been fine but I've been worrying off and on since then despite feeling better and I would have been better off taking it just to be on the safe side. I took macrobid when I was pregnant with my daughter and while it's not my first choice of antibiotics to take during pregnancy, it's got very few side effects and it's considered fairly safe. Call your OB and ask what they advise but I don't think it would HURT to take it ,and it might help.
