Update on trip to L&D

Hi ladies, sorry to keep you all on edge....you we're all very right. i did need to go in! i didnt end up going until yesterday morning (im stubborn i know)...i called the clinic and they had me come in right then to get put on the monitors and then to check my cervix. Well, at that point i thought i was having contractions every 10 minutes and i was feeling some cramping in between...turns out upon being hooked up to the monitors that those were also contractions and not just cramping...i was having contractions every 2 minutes apart (my bad) but i honestly really didnt know because on Tuesday and weds morning i would have like hour long breaks between contractions...or what i thought were breaks! So after that they checked my cervix and found out that it was closed still but softening...the doc said like the very beginning stages of effacing ...that it was getting ready for labor. So then they sent me up to triage where i was monitored for hours. Up at triage they started an iv and a bag of fluids..they wanted to try and see if they could knock out the contractions with making sure i wasnt dehydrated first (which i knew i wasnt) so after that didnt work they gave me a shot to stop the contractions..starts with a "T" and it burned like a son of A!!! and it makes u feel like u just drank 80 cups of coffee lol. Anyway, it seemed like the shot started to slow them down at first but then they got stronger and longer so the doc came back in and checked me and i was 1 cm dilated. we had been in triage for like 8 hours by then so they decided to finally admit me and get us in a real room. Once we got there they gave me a steroid shot to develop Matthew's lungs faster and another shot to stop the contractions. After the second shot i was still having them but they were definitely slowing down finally to about every 10-15 minutes and were less painful. then they FINALLY let me eat! i hadnt eaten all day because we came in to the clinic first thing in the morning. just getting a meal down made me feel a lot better but i was really exhausted at that point from fighting contractions for so long...but who the hell can sleep while having contractions? finally at about 9pm last night the contractions stopped...they kept us until 11 and then let us out of jail!! trust me...the fiance and i wanted to run out of there lol we we're so thankful to be able to go home to our own bed! Today we have to go back to the clinic and get our other steroid shot for the babies lungs but after that shot we should be good to go if we were to deliver early...they would like me to get to at least 36 weeks of course. but supposedly im not in "cervix changing labor" because my cervix was staying at 1cm all day so they didnt find it necessary to give me anything but the shots...i mean as far as contraction stopping medicine at home which in my opinion i find kind of stupid because they kept telling me all day that it was important for them to stop the contractions because my contractions could lead to cervix changing contractions which would not be good. but apparently the medicine u can take at home causes some risk to the mother and baby which they dont like to use unless absolutely necessary like in cervix changing scenarios. so im a little scared of it keeping happening because this morning i woke with cramps...im not contracting hard...yet. but im feeling like its gonna come back and i really dont like not having a game plan...all they did was tell us to come back in if it starts happening again and i wish someone could tell me to expect a baby within 3 weeks or not. they also put me on light activity and not bed rest...is there anything i can do at home besides the obvious not having sex and laying on my sides...drinking a lot of water...to prevent the contractions from coming? because at this point i feel like im gonna be stuck in L&D again very soon.

I responded about this newest development in my email response...child, you're giving ME gray hairs!!! I've been worried about you since the other day, but I figured since you didn't email me back everything was hunky-dory...I'm just glad that you've been alright through all of this and your little bun is still cooking away. Keep me updated...and get some rest <3.

UGH! it just keeps getting better and better! So yesterday after we came home from the doctors office i was still contracting regularly but they werent very long or painful and i was just resting in bed with DF watching movies and eating lasagna when i decide i have to pee ....So i get up to pee in the dark cuz we were watching movies and i didnt notice that my dog spilled her water dish...and we have wood floors and i totally slipped in it and ate it forward onto my leg and my belly...hurt pretty good and i starting contracting hard immediately while still sitting on the floor. After the fall which was about 9pm DF got me up and into bed and i was trying my best to breathe thru the contractions and was waiting to feel the baby move...i finally felt a bunch of quick jerky motions at about 9:30 but then it was too still in there...like eerie still. So DF started rubbing my belly and we poked at him and drank something cold and something sweet...we tried a cold wash cloth and then a warm one. we got up and walked around the block in the cold air (which i know was dumb cuz i was having contractions but at that point i just wanted my baby to move!) so then when the walk didnt work and it was about almost 10:30 i called the on call nurse at the clinic and she told me to come on into triage. and go figure as soon as we got in the triage bed he started kicking lol and his heart beat was great! that would happen like that right? but i was contracting super hard so they kept me over night to keep monitoring baby and to once again slow down the contractions. i was horribly uncomfy all night long with those stupid tight bands on and contractions but they finally subsided at about 5 am this morning and they let me go home at 1pm. pretty sure DF is gonna put me in a bubble for the rest of my pregnancy lol. but im about to take a lonnnng much needed nap in my own comfy bed right now so ill check in later! thanks for the prayers...im obviously gonna need them..this kid is giving me Grey hair at 20!

Oh geeze, sorry to hear that you had to go back to labor and delivery but I am happy that you are staying smart about it and paying attention to your body... I am hoping that you little man stays in there a good while longer at least until 37 weeks just to make sure that he is ready for this world. Good for you DF to be putting you on bedrest just to make sure that you are going to be good at least for the next few days... Keep us updated on how you are doing throughout the next few days :)

hey, thanks for all the well wishes girls....we had to go back in today because i started contracting....again.. and we had to get the other half of our shot for Matthew's lungs. they checked my cervix again and im still stuck at 1cm so they think things are okay for now...they told me to take it easy and to stay layed down as much as possible but i can try things like stretching and warm baths...tylonel etc. They told me to watch for the contractions to get longer and stronger and if that happens to come back in right away otherwise i have an u/s and regular appointment on thursday and they will check me again then. they said today that my cervix definitely feels like its softening and thinning out but everyone is feeling optimistic that we can control things. so no at home meds yet...just lots of rest. i had another one of the shots to stop contractions again while at the office...man those things burn! and make u shake like ur having a heart attack lol yuck! im doing okay now..resting in bed. my contractions are about every 12 minutes right now but they arent very painful...nothing like compared to before getting the meds and they did stop completely after getting the shot but just recently started up again. DF is putting me on bedrest while he's at work tomorrow and the next day because he doesnt want anything happening while he's not here lol (so cute) so he's gonna stock me up with plenty of bedside goodies before he goes. so you ladies will most likely see a lot of posting from me over the weekend!

Goodness girl I was so terrified for you! I am so glad that you and Mathew are doing better and they took your concerns seriously... I also think that it was the best thing for them to give you the shots for Mathew's lungs and that they gave you the shot to stop your contractions (I had them 3 times within a 3 week period and they make you feel like you are going to shake out of your bed lol) I hope that you can take it easy and that your little one stays in there long enough to grow to his full self that he needs to be when he is in his born :) I am soooo sooo glad that you are alright! The other ladies are right though. Try to take it easy and if you have any reoccuring problems then don't hesitate to go back to Labor and Delivery and let them check you out!

Yes get there earlier next time, you are still far from yur due date and a babies brain is only 50% developed by 35 weeks. THat last bit helps with the baby being able to mantain his body temperature, knowing to breath, knowing to breath suck and swallow too! My duaghter ahd the shots and I had her at 30 weeks and she was OK thank God but boys do not do as good as girls. The more times you start to contract the easier it will be for you r cervix to dialte each time. They can give you progesterone shtos to calm your uterus and they ahve no side effects that I can tell, I am on them. Also they can give you Brethine at home, I had that with all past 4 pregnancies. Now my cousin has the same problems and they gave her Procaria which is a high blood pressure drug but also helps with pre term labor. The magnisium is good to but boy does it make you feel liek you are on fire and yoru heart race! I hope you can hold off!!! I wish I knew of something else for you do do at home but there isn't anything:( With the 4 I had early I know what you are going through! I did notice that the more I laid down I would have them and the more I was up, that is probable why they did not put you on full bed rest. But keeping the pressure off your cerivx is vital! I did not ahve that! I had pre term labor the whole pregnancy, delievered all 4 early but also 3 were form my water breaking from to many vaginal checks when I id have pre term labor! Make sure they use a vaginal probe and US to check you! It does nto put pressure on your cervix and will help it NOT dialate more! Best of luck to you my dear and Mathew, right:)

Thanks for the update!  Rest...and when in doubt, go back to L&D.  I know...it *****, but it's better to get checked out rather than stay at home wondering and worrying. Plus, if there's something they can do to stop labour at this stage, it's better that that happen since your baby is still a few weeks away from being full term. Good luck :-)

I spent 105 days in the hosptial contracting an dialated - those shots are turbutieline (spelling wrong) - they do help and you can only get them every six hours... if necessary they would put you on magnesium to stop the labor as well... It really sounds like you should just take it easy and if it does happen again.. get there quicker... it is easier to stop them when they start than after they have progressed.. Glad to hear all is well!! Good Luck
