Upper back pain

Hello everyone. My wife has been experiencing moderate to severe pain in her upper back from the past 4 or 5 days. She is in her 21st week now and she wants to know if it's normal to experience back pain during pregnancy. Also she wants to know if whether a doctor could prescribe a pain killer during pregnancy

i believe i am 21 weeks now myself but still waiting on the results and have been experiencing the SAME thing! Does your wife show alot? I had the same problem with my first son (the pain) because he sat so high up near the ribs but i have a tilted uterus and DO NOT show! It makes it difficult for me to stand straight up because of the discomfort. If i were her tho i wouldnt take any pain meds. she should really consider a chiropractor....they work wonders and are safe during pregancy!!!

It is normal to experience back pain BUT the type of pain your wife is experiencing may not fall in the realm of normal - best bet is to call her doctor.

There are pain medications that can be taken during pregnancy.  Her doctor will be able to advise her on this and what level pain killer will be needed.
