Using hpt to determine miscarriage?

Hi, I am 5 weeks2 days pregnant and I am having brown spotting and cramping. My hCG levels were 2493 yesterday and i have to wait until tomorrow to get my results for my hCG today. Would it be okay to use a urine pregnancy test and compare it to my last one a week ago? My last hpt test was at 16 dpo and today I am 23 dpo.

Thank you for the advice girls... I took a hpt anyway, I couldnt help myself... I compared it to my last test at 16 DPO and my test today was BLAZING dark, it sucked most of the ink out of the control line. Even if I am miscarrying atleast I have a little more actual hope, and I can get through my day without being horribley depressed.... Maybe I am giving myself false hope but I sure hope not.

I had lots of brown spotting around 5 and 6 weeks. I am now 30 weeks 3 days and baby is doing just fine. I wouldn't do another test, because the doctor told me if I was to have a miscarriage the test would show positive for up to 6 weeks.

Brown spotting is usually the shedding of the lining of your uterus, especially with how early you are this is usually normal. I wouldnt be worried at all. If its a heavy bright red flow accompanied with bad cramps is usually an indicator of miscarriage. You may cramp throughout your whole pregnancy but I would say the cramping you have along with the brown and not red blood is a sign your uterus is finishing shedding as it stretches.
