VBAC? ater 2 section

so iv been thinking about a vaginal birth after c-section. and i was wondering if any of you ladies ever knew any ladies or your selves had done this after 2 or more c-sections?

up where i live in washington towards the tricites they can do it but that is 45 minutes to an hour drive there because the 2 hospitals in wallawalla dont do it because its high risk.

second thing is do you know what they do if you have genital herpes like medicine wise 4 to 5 weeks before delivery?
i would really love to experience an natural birth because i never had that chance before because first one was a emergency and the second one was a repeat.
im not sure what to do if any of you ladies had any advice or any thing what would you do if it was you?

It makes me sad all the miss information about trial of labor after c-section... as with anything it has risks but so does repeat c-sections.  Did you know that actually the risk of maternal death is lower for vbac births than repeat c-sections... There has been such fear put in the birth process but it is what our bodies were designed to do.  With that said of course it is that women's right to decide what is the best option for her and her baby, I just wish that fear was not the main component for most women's  decision.  I know a women that delivered a healthy baby boy after 2 c-sections with a midwife out of the tri cities area and she drove from the lc valley to have that option.  So it can be done and done safely.  I also have heard there are manys doctors in Walla Walla pushing to have the option again be available at the local hospitals.  I hope the best for you please if you want more info look up your local ICAN group or join us on Facebook I am part of the ICAN of the LC Valley. :)

Best Wishes Ashley

My c-section story is this..was forced to have one with my first..doc felt she was gonna be too big to fit on birth canal and an ultrasound showed the ambilical cord around her neck..I didn't go into labor. After, I felt like I didn't get to experience the birthing process, so I changed docs for #2 and we were gonna do a vbac..I wasn't even allowed to try because she showed 7 lbs 5 oz at 34 wks ultrasound ...my doc said I would rupture my scar be side she wad gonna be big and he explained what would happen..instant hystrectemy( sp.???) And no more babies!! :-( ..So I chose the safest way for me and my baby and babies to come!! Will be having my fourth c-section in July..;-)

I work in women's health...mom-baby care, nicu, and pediatrics...I'm also on the c section team...i have seem many unsuccessful vbac's as well as a few successful...many with 2+ previous c/s...risk for uterine rupture is greater with a vbac...actually had one the other night...wasn't pretty...as for the herpes...if you do have them, if you deliver and they are active, you have a greater chance of passing them on to the infant...can cause blindness...we tend to have a lot of moms who opt for a c/c bc they don.t want to.risk it, whether or not you have           an outbreak

i am NOT a medical professional but the risks of VBAC (most notably, uterine rupture) are somewhat similar to those of repeat cesareans, and in some cases lower, but your best bet is to read and research *as much as you can* until you are informed and comfortable with your decided birth plan. i know that certain forms of induction and labour augmentation are contra-indicated for VBAC (prostaglandins and Misoprostol have been studied and proven dangerous to use during labour especially for women attempting a VBAC, for example). your healthcare provider should also be able to give you info on this.

what is particularly relevant to your situation is that there has been a documented increase to the risk associated with VBAC for women who have had more than one c-section. it is directly related to the number of c-sections you have had, and how long you have had to heal between your last section and your pregnancy. how long ago did you have your last section?

i've been doing a tonne of reading on this as i am also attempting a VBAC after cesarean. as long as there is enough time between sections they say the risk is low and the benefits of an attempted TOL outweigh the risks of a repeat section.

also: are you in the states or canada? i know that often in the states insurance co's will deny you coverage for a VBAC -- which is unfair, in my opinion.

Most hospitals will only perform a VBAC if there has been only 1 c-section.  It really has nothing to do with the doctors (though most will not allow it). You'll have to double check with the hospitals.

I thought about a vbac this time but, I'm just not sure. The risks involved kinda freaks me out. I had an amazing recovery with my c section so, I really don't know.

My best friend had 2 c sections and had a planned one with her 3rd but ended up going into labour 2 days before. By the time she got to the hospital she asked if she could still have it they checked her and she was already dialated. She said it was a nice experience but, she would never do it again lol. She says she's used to her c sections and would rather that lol
