For a fever, as others suggested: A LUKEWARM bath... so it's slightly cool to the touch but not cold.
Give baby some tylenol or motrin to bring fever down... and lay in a cool NOT COLD room with a light blanket... take temp every 30 minutes and if it goes over 100 take baby in to the hospital to get looked at. :)

My doctor always says it depends on how the child is acting, not the fever. alternate tylenol and motrin and encourage fluids. if the fever is controlled with the tylenol and motrin (which can be given an hour apart) then it is likely just viral in nature (meaning it'll just have to run its course). however if the fever is not controlled or the child acts sick definetly see a doctor, it may be bacterial (which an antibiotic will be prescribed). and of course call your child's doctor if your uncomfortable.

When I said cool bath I didn't mean cold. I would never give my son a cold bath especially not at 9 months. Sorry for the misunderstanding. If your doc said to take him when it's at 38.9 and his fever is at 38.6 maybe you should just take him. It will give you peace of mind and they will be able to help him better and figure out what is going on. I hope he feels better soon. Poor baby! I always feel so helpless when my son is sick. =(

i always advise that if you're unsure, to take the baby to the dr or er. it's much better to do that and have them confirm he's ok then not to take him and then for something to be wrong. they don't mind checking them over just to give you piece of mind. in the uk, we're advised not to take them unless their temp is over 102f and won't be brought down by baby paracetemol ( i guess that's the same as tylenol ) but i've taken mine when the temp's been lower if i personally was worried. best of luck.

Actually I wouldnt do a cold bath but more like a warm bath. A cold bath can shock that baby or something. When my daughter has a slight fever I usually give her a warm bath and let her stay in there as long as she wants.

I forgot to ask how old your son is? I agree with Lance.

That would be about 101.4 F.....I would just call the doc and see what they say. When my son is teething he runs a fever sometimes and it almost got to 103 but I gave him a cool bath, put cool compresses on his head, and gave him tylenol and it went down after a while. Contact your doc, they will be able to tell you if they want to see him right away or not.

I believe when they are little that it shouldnt be over 100.4 Farenheit? I think thats what my doc told me.

This info is from kidshealth. org

Kids whose temperatures are lower than 102° Fahrenheit (38.9° Celsius) often don't require medication unless they're uncomfortable. There's one important exception to this rule: If you have an infant 3 months or younger with a rectal temperature of 100.4° Fahrenheit (38° Celsius) or higher, call your doctor or go to the emergency department immediately. Even a slight fever can be a sign of a potentially serious infection in very young infants.

If your child is between 3 months and 3 years old and has a fever of 102.2° Fahrenheit (39° Celsius) or higher, call the doctor to see if he or she needs to see your child. For older kids, take behavior and activity level into account. Watching how your child behaves will give you a pretty good idea whether a minor illness is the cause or if your child should be seen by a doctor.
