I am currently pregnant with one baby at 21 weeks. When i went for my first ultrasound there were two sacs but one wasn't as big so they determined it was the vanishing twin syndrome. When i asked my midwife what would happen she said that...
1. The vanishing twin syndrome is so common, most people just never know they have it becuase of how early it happens.
2. when i miscarry the empty sac it will not effect my living fetus becuase of how early it was. (and the living fetus would asorb the extra nutrientients from the sac.)
3. It is possible that while i was miscarrying i would have no symptoms or period like symptoms. She said like my previous miscarriage but it felt like a period at times better and at time worse (the emotional effect made it so much worse all the time)
Like i said before my baby is still healthy from this. I personally didn't have bleeding but my doctors told me to expect it. I would say get a follow up appointment or seek another doctor!
Feel free to message me if you would like any more advise!
Yes, this can happen it had happened to me with my first Daughter. I was a very young Mom the first time, so all of this was very new to me. my daughter is now 11yrs.old. and healthy! I was so schocked when they told me I was pregnant with twins, that I lost one but was still pregnant. so if I were you I would try to take another pregnancy test or get blood work done by your doctor. I wish you all the luck, and if this something you want I hope it happens for you.
Yes def go back for blood work. That could happen, You may still be pregnant with one baby. Make sure you let us know.
"could i have just miscarried the secong empty sac? and still be pregnant?"
This is something that can happen, but is quite rare.... BUT possible nonetheless
"I would be 12 weeks next week id still pregnant... was this a misdiagnosed miscarriage?
Heavy bleeding and passage of clots is typical symptomology of a miscarriage.
If I were you I would go back to the doctor for bloodwork and an ultrasound. If you did miscarry, its important to make sure the MC was "complete". On top of that, its important to see if you miscarried one or both twins (in a situation like this its assumed you would have MC both). It can take weeks after a MC before hormone levels return to normal so its possible to still feel pregnant for some time.
I would definately talk to your doctor about this and maybe try and get in for an ultrasound. My sister was about 10 or 12 weeks pregnant when she began experiencing very heavy bleeding like a miscarriage. She went in for an u/s and found out that she had been pregnant with twins (she didnt know beforehand) and that one had miscarried but the other was fine. Her son is now a healthy 14yr old boy.
