What are the symptoms of coming off Yaz??

Hello. I was on Yaz for about 5 months and in mid march (2 months ago) i decided to go off of it because of the crazy side effects! i got my first non pill period somewhat on time and now im waiting for my second period but it is almost a week late. i highly doubt im pregnant because i always use condoms with my bf. I am kinda worried anyways though but i just wanted to know if it was normal or not? thank you

In 1.5 months Yaz gave me unbearable headaches, weird heart palpitations with increased frequency and intensity, leg pain I had never experienced before.... Then upon stopping it, four weeks later I haven't got my period, and as of a few days ago the nipple tenderness, fatigue, mind cloudiness, and cramping started.
I'm just relieved I came across this page because I was really going crazy in my mind for fear of the P- word.

I have had the exact same problem for the past two months! It's horrible. My skin seems to be going bumpy everywhere and I have acne whereas before I went on the pill, I had pretty good skin with breakouts only around puberty. Honestly, I wish my doctor told me more about the effects of the pill and told me about the different pill options. I just got prescribed YAZ because that's the one I heard about the most and that's the one I mentioned to my doctor.

I went off the pill for the same reasons: I knew that any BC pill wasn't totally healthy because it essentially produced the hormones FOR my body artificially and now I'm afraid that I will have permanent hormone imbalance.

Also, as a side note, your boobs will get smaller off YAZ and on top of having your skin break out everywhere.....not a great comfort for my self-image. I'm usually a positive person, but this upsets me. I wonder what other side-effects will I appear later on that I'm not aware of now!

I agree with you about people only liking to post negative things. And it is so so so scary for me right now as I'm looking everything up and the bad side effects for coming off the pill.  The reason I went on YAZ about ten months ago was to first (vainly), clear up my pimple problem which I never had before until I started to get my periods twice a month (which was the second reason I went on). But now I really do have emotional problems; I use to be a high energy person who was really happy and now I'm definitely temperamental and have bad thoughts about things (like whether my boyfriend who i know I love insanely is who i want to be with). Also, I have always been extremely athletic playing on my university track and field team and soccer team so have always been skinny while eating like a pig.  But now even though I watch what I eat and exercise so much and intensely I hate how I look.

I hate feeling this way about myself and I know my emotions don't help, but I am so scared of going off the pill because of all the horror stories I've heard of people getting acne on their face and back and having it really really bad.  That is my number one concern.  Did you get it bad? Do you know others who have been successful? Anything you can add will all help my extremely scared state at the moment.

I tried to post this earlier but didn't seem to work.  Apologize if it's a double post...

I am now 36 and was on Yaz for 1.5 years.  I went off of it about 5 weeks ago because of 10 days of headaches culminating in a migraine.  I went off Yaz immediately after the migraine (and my doctor agreed that was a good decision).  Therefore, I went off Yaz mid-pack.  In general, I do not react well to BCP.  I had been on several when I was in my early 20s.  I swore them off for a while, but went on Yaz when I started getting spotting between periods and I wasn't having a period for 3 months at a time.  The Yaz regulated my periods (of course), made the spotting go away, gave me light and not very painful periods, and somewhat improved the skin on my face and chest (although I never had a lot of acne).  I did not notice an increase in fatigue.  I felt pretty energetic throughout.  Yaz also did not make me gain weight (as most other pills did), but it led to frequent nausea, headaches a few times/month, more crying while watching sappy TV shows during the 3rd and 4th weeks of a pack, decreased libido, night sweats--getting more frequent the longer I was on the pill, and I'd wake up 3-5 times/night to pee.  And this was a good reaction to BCP for me!

The migraine and headaches were what led me to go off of Yaz.  I had a period 3 days after going off Yaz, but nothing since (and that was over a month ago).  Since going off Yaz, I have had nipple soreness and a return of libido. I have not noticed any weight gain.  I also returned to 0-1 times getting up to urinate each night.  I've also had a return to my normal face and chest acne (although, again, not a major problem).  And, recently, I've had headaches for the last 4 days again (although they seem different than when on the pill).  Last night I had night sweats for the first time since going off the pill and I had increased urination last night (although I had not had more to drink last night).  I haven't noticed much with mood (crying) so I think that has improved as well... but my mood has always been pretty stable on/off the pill.

There definitely is an adjustment period to going on and off a pill.  I know that.  I'm just glad to see people post here to know that we're experiencing some similar things.  I hope my post helps people.  I do get a little concerned about long-term (permanent?) changes that may result from being on BCP long-term.  I hope that everything soon goes back to normal.

SO TRUE! about the HPT thing.. I am currently in that boat! I am just waiting on my period.  I threw away my BC my accident on the start of my first pill, the day before I left for Punta Cana.  I was on it for only one month, now 2 weeks after my period my boobs are sore, nipples sensitive, I even see a some veins.  Terrified of the possible... Now I am just patiently waiting for that period, fingers crossed!!!

i am 16 and my doctor has not long put me on the yaz pill. i hurd at our age you can be very fertile and if my bf has very good sperm the pill wont do anything. is that true? I have taken 18 pills and not really felt any different. i took all the 7 pills on my periods and they stopped on my 4th day of having them wich was a big difference because usually i get very bad period pains and heavy clotty flows. i started having sex on the 12th day (pill 12) without any protection for the first time, and the next day had very sore boobs, and nipples and they have been sore for about 6 days now. i have nearly finished the month but have not been moody. just the usually swings i get every now and then. could i be pregnant? i then had sex about 3 or 4 days later. without protection again, but my mates told me u should take the whole month first for it to kick in before you have sex unprotected! ? :/

I was on YAZ for 2, maybe 3 years if I remember correctly. I tried various types for a year or so after my 4 year old was born and can't remember when I discovered YAZ. Needless to say, I took myself off in October, had my period on time in Novemeber..and ever since I have gone 37 days, 38, then recently 39 days between periods. Which is FRUSTRATING for trying to figure ovulation.

Prior to getting pregnant I was always normal...and I liked YAZ because it helped with mood swings, acne, and felt almost not myself when I missed a month of pills or started a new pack few weeks later.

I have noticed weight gain..and I am sooo glad to see this effects of coming off the pill aren't just happening to me. I am going to try again this month...estimating at a 28-40 day cycle.

I've been on yaz for about three years and have not had any complications with anything, no nausea, or cramps, nothing. But before getting on Yaz I never had PMS or cramps so that may be why I'm not experiencing the same symptoms as others. Recently I got off of Yaz I got my period twice in the month of February (*****...that's the shortest month and I got it twice! ;P) Now it's march and my period is late...My husband and I didn't use condoms a couple of times and now I'm wondering if it's normal to not get your period after getting off of this pill, or if I'm pregnant, is it healthy to get pregnant right after getting off the pill and what I can do to be healthy if this is a pregnancy and reduce complications?!

Getting off Birth Control destroyed my skin.

I am 27, never had skin problems at a teenager.  Started on Birth Control around age 21 (with no changes in my good skin) and continued on it until about age 24, when I decided that I wanted to 'cleanse' my body, and not take a daily pill.. a few months later I started getting terrible cystic acne.  When I got back on the pill, around 6 months later, at last resort to heal my skin, it almost instantly cleared up.  I have tried repeatedly to be off the pill once and for all, but each time I get off, my skin gets worse and worse.  When I'm on, my skin is great (except when my doctor gave me a low-estrogen pill - Orthotricycline and Yaz were by far the best for gorgeous skin, for my particular body anyway).

But I'm now convinced that the pill messes with your hormones SO much, taking over your bodies natural ability to regulate how much of each hormone is produced, etc.  So, yeah, when you're on the thing it's great but if the effect is inevitably going to deem your hormones incapable of balancing themselves, is it worth it?  Now I think mine are over-producing androgens, something that never happened prior to being on the pill, as my skin NEVER had a problem until the first time I stopped the pill, so I don't believe that this is my bodies natural tendency.  I think that my body adapted to having these constant synthetic hormones, for years and years, and is either permanently damaged/out of whack, or will take a LONG time to re-adjust.  In the meantime I have gone from smooth glowing skin to a scarred, bumpy disaster, completely lowering my self esteem and already disfiguring my face.  What no doctor can tell me with certainty is: will my body go back to normal??? How long will it take? Is there a natural way to slow down the androgens that seem to be causing the acne?

Part of me wants to succomb, go back on Yaz and just let it be a crutch for the rest of my life.. but what if in a few years I want to get pregnant? Am I going to have my skin become ravaged again? I know Spironolactone blocks androgens but in my mind, this will have the same long-term effect as the pill, as it is doing my hormones work for me, messing up their natural patterns.  Also, it is unsafe to be on Spironolactone just before and during pregnancy.  Antibiotics don't really make such a difference with hormonal acne and I have no desire to be on those for the long term either.

If I could do it again, I would never have started on the Birth Control Pill in the first place.  I wish doctors would educate young women on what the pill is actually doing and the potential effects that occur when you stop taking it.  Everyone is just so obsessed with making sure teens are protecting themselves against pregnancy (and understandably so!) that they brush over/don't even carte to learn some ultimately important information.

I am noticing a lot of hair loss with this pill as well and it is very worrying. I don't want to go bald!! I also did not get my period this month. Yaz has made my cycle disappear which is NOT a good thing. I think this pill is terrible for all of the side effects and should be off the market. My boyfriend is a doctor and I'm going to tell him never to prescribe this pill to anyone ever!

Completely agree with you! i've been on YAZ for about 3 years and just went off it in June. I didn't experience any real side effects for the first 2 months (my period came right on time), but I recently started loosing a lot of hair. Did anyone here experience this before?
I hope this stops soon, perhaps my hormone levels are stil off...no idea, planning to see my doc for answers. The truth is any pill will more or less affect your body and its hormone level, so be prepared to side effects. The best is probably to never be on a pill and keep your body's natural cycles. Oh well...
Good luck to everyone!

I must say, I was on YAZ from December 2006-February 2010 and never had any problems, except the first week I started taking the pill. I had all the symptoms of being pregnant, but a lot of BC tend to make you feel that way when you first start. I obviously was not pregnant, seeing how I was not sexually active. My dr. put me on this pill because I had been on another brand with much higher levels of hormones -- a well established generic brand -- for over 6 months (several years before), but it had made me "crazy emotional" and my periods were even heavier with very little relief with cramping, which is why I was on it in the first place. YAZ was definitely a life saver. I didn't have to take very many pain killers those first few days of my period and my menstrual flow went from being so heavy that I couldn't find a bathroom often enough for 7 days to barely there over the course of the years. My hormone imbalance from the previous BC was no longer a problem either. Also, it did help clear up my acne, wishing I was still on it right now for the acne benefits. I'm off of it now because my husband and I are wanting to start a family.

When it comes to things like these, you will always be able to find the negative easier. People tend to complain more, or have a reason to write more when they  have something go wrong. But, there are always people out there with positive experiences, but they aren't looking for a forum to speak about it. Additionally, when it comes to BC, EACH PILL has its own pros and cons. Just because this one is getting more publicity because of all the sue happy lawyers out there, doesn't mean these side effects come at a higher rate than the older, more established BCs.

As far as symptoms for coming off. My first 2 months, my period started right on time. My third month, I was a week early. This fourth month, I was right on time. Because we are trying to get pregnant, I start thinking I might have symptoms now and then of pregnancy, but really, it's just wishful thinking. Also, my first month, I had some side pain in my ovaries, but that was not unusual for me when I wasn't on BC before.

My doctor suggested Yaz because I have very intense pms symptoms, probably PMDD. This is not the answer! It gave me headaches- no, migraines. I was so nauseous, tired, out of breath, and my anxiety level went wayyyyyy up. Instead of having awful PMS symptoms around and during my period, I was crazy all month! After to talking to every woman I know, many of the same symptoms were confirmed in them. I dont know anyone who has had a good experience on this pill.

First - THANK YOU!  Thank you, thank you for also having the same problem I am having!!  I have been panicked for this entire past week afraid that I am the dreaded P-word.  I have been off Yaz since August (sidenote: was incredibly suicidal while on the pill, anxiety and depression were crippling), and had my first period almost exactly as scheduled around the beginning of September without missing a beat.

I am now a week late with crazy nipple sensitivity and slight darkening of the nipple/areola.  I have been meditating on menstruating without much luck, though I did experience cramps a week before it was due, and am still having some cramping/fullness in my central lower abdomen.

This post was the first I have read to relieve my fears - I have serious hormonal trouble and now am thinking it's just my wacky hormones taking awhile to adjust and get back to its olgimenarchic state.  I also had a very bad breakout a week before/the week of anticipated period (I've lived with acne since I was around 12), leading me to believe that my androgens may be taking over as they are prone to do.

Also...while it hasn't happened in this thread, a lot of folks answer with extreme insensitivity regarding taking an HPT.  Everyone knows the obvious thing to do is take an HPT, but it's very nervewracking - sometimes not knowing is better than having that suspicion confirmed.  I know it's crazy.  But when you don't wanna be P, you don't want to risk knowing that you are...you'd rather take chances and convince yourself otherwise.

Best of luck to you - I wish we knew how it turned out for you!  I will try and let everyone know when my period arrives!!

I am afraid to go off Yaz from all the side effects I hear about it and would like to get pregnant in the near future, instead of going off of it cold turkey and experience all the side effects any suggestions to how many pills I should miss in order to get pregnant?

i tried to google it for you.....however, not only could i not get an answer specific to your issue......

EVERYTHING i found was about other forums where 9 out of 10 women were actually having more complications that before getting on yaz! i thought about getting on this, and after reading all of those posts/replies on the other forums, HE** NO!!!!!!      i found 1 woman whose been on it since 2006, and has had absolute horrible periods, migraines twice a month, diareah(sp?), among other things, and according to her, she only got on b/c after having her child, and had never had abnormal periods, etc prior to getting pregnant, but after she gave birth they put her on that BC pill, and wow!!!!! it appears that products side effects 100% outweight the benes.....

sorry i couldnt answer your question, but i do hope everything turns out good for you!

Well, Coming off any birth control, it can screw with your cycle... also, it's normal for your nipples to hurt for a few weeks, esp. if your getting off the pill for good. (that brand.)
I was on DEPO shot for 3 yrs. and had flushing, sore Nips, slightly wierd pieriods. (of course I didn't have a period for about 2 yrs during depo... I got AF the week after missing my shot.) Also headaches... and nausea. Basically it was the same symptoms as when I got on the shot. it makes your body act pregnant (any BC does) and so your hormones regulate again when you get off BC. That's my experience.
