What causes orgasms in your sleep?

With my daughter, in the third trimester, I would frequently have orgasms in my sleep. Now I'm almost 15 weeks pregnant, and I had one last night. They're starting again. What causes orgasms in your sleep, especially if you're not even dreaming of anything sexual?

Not that I'm complaining or anything..It helps when you get em more often than you do the physical way, lol.

I started getting these sleep orgasms after i had a huge operation. I was in early 30's and i had a 2 kg fiberoid removed from the wall of my uterus. I have never had children. When the sleep orgasm first happened it took me several years to work out what was happening. It wasnt very often and quite different to the usual awake ones, plus i was usually quite asleep, so i'd never really remember then. Now i am in my 40s and get them at least 3 times a month, but now right before i am awake - or sometimes they wake me up. They are a great surprise and lovely start to the day. But i am never dreaming about anything erotic so it's a bit strange. I wonder if this started as my womb went through a bit of trauma which is why i was wondering if pregnancy is also a trigger? I previous asked a sex therapist about this but she hadnt even heard of this. It is all strange. It's hard to get a scientific answer - there's more research about life on Mars than female orgasms.

I'm 25 weeks preganant and this has been happening to me the last few weeks. I'm not even having sexual dreams. It's just so random. But it's amazing.

I've experienced that twice after giving birth, and loved it. :) Too bad it didn't last. I'm guessing because of all the blood flow and sensitivity that goes on in that area during and right after pregnancy.

i had them the first month of pregnancy too, but unfortuatnely would wake up with severe cramps afterwards, since we were high MC risk, we were not supposed to have intercourse/ or orgasm.. so i guess it was my bodies way of "dealing" with it! sad thing is soon after my last dream like that i woke up with the worst cramps lasting for nearly 20 or so minutes then some of my preg symptoms dwindled the next day now found out baby has stopped growing: (

I had it before I got pregger but not as often.  I had it 2-3 times this week.  I don't know, I am almost 31 weeks and still interested in sex.  My husband doesn't care because sometime I 'd wake him up to you know what......It's dh in my dream sometimes and some random people other times.  I think it's one of the better pregnancy symtoms....

I've gotten them too a few times. (mainly in early pregnancy and before getting pregnant) from "sexy dreams"... my husband found it funny since 1/2 the time it'd be a sexy dream with someone I'd NEVER EVER find sexy in real life. (like some old geezer I never even met) Ewwww... I get teased about that one by not only him but my brothers and friends (news travels fast in a family of mainly guys and guy friends!)

Luckily I never made noises or anything so DH was never woken up.... but when I told him later he'd ask who I was dreaming about. Then he'd laugh and say it's not fair!

This was an entertaining post to read!! lol... I hate to say it but I'm one of the lucky ones too... I've always had them periodically in my sleep though, even before pregnancy. But it's really nice now that I am pregnant because I'm really not interested in it during waking hours!! How weird! I tell my hubby about it and he always wants details - LOL! And he's always a bit dissapointed that he's not part of the action. He's like, "wake me up when that happens!" lol men are funny. ;)

I'm sure he'd be jealous, but ti's just payback for what he does in the shower because I haven't given him sex for a week.

I'm jealous...what causes it is LUCK!!!!  I wasn't sexual at all when I was pregnant.  I was too interested in sleeping.  I wish I had your problem now though.  That would be awesome.

you may be dreaming about things and not remembering them OR becuase of increased blood flow your "area" may be more sensitive...it could be something in a dream that is sparking the pleasure area of your brain which is in turn causing them OR it could be something as simple as your underwear rubbing the right spot.  I've never experienced it myself, but you're not the first person I have heard of that has had this happen during pregnancy.

I can't find anything on why it happens in pregnancy, but apparently the orgasms in sleep is the same as a man's wet dream, only less common. It has to do with hormones and brain stimulation during a sexual dream..the only problem is, when I had it last night, I wasn't dreaming of anything sexual.

I dreamt that my old work (was a dollar store, now a pet store) was a combined dollar store/gym. This made me angry. It made me so angry that I ran away to Idaho and somehow made it back to Canada within 5 minutes. I stopped at my mom's house to change and shower, only to find out my mom had thrown out my clothes and turned off the water in the house. So, I went to Little Caesar's Pizza instead and woke up with an orgasm.

I would imagine it has something to do with increased blood flow to that area, but that's just a guess.

So why would it happen not in pregnancy?  I've never been pregnant, and have gotten these since I was like 10 years old.  (and at that time, I had no idea what the heck it was, but would explain it to my mom as a "tickly" feeling)  Too weird!

I usually have this "problem" when it has been a while since the last time I had one. The other thing is our dreams tend to be a little more vivid during pregnancy anyway and that might lead to orgasmic dreaming if the dream is sexual in nature.

OMG Im so glad that I read this. I am 11 weeks and for the last 2-3 weeks this has been happening to me, I wake up right at the end of the orgasm.  Not a symptom I am going to complain about,  but I thought I was completly alone in experiencing this.
