What do contractions feel like?

I was wondering what contractions feel like. For the past two days I have been having these menstrual crampy feelings. They seem to come and go. Like lastnight I was on the couch and they kept coming and going. The ones lastnight were accompanied by a very bad backache. UGH. Do contractions feel similar to menstrual cramps? If not what would you describe them as feeling like.

I was just wondering bc if these are contractions, I shouldn't be having them as I am only 26 weeks. Thanks.

Also, if you have at least 4 of these in 1h, you need to call your doctor to make sure you arent in the beginning stages or preterm labor (call even if you think they are Braxton Hicks contractions).

They def sound like braxton hicks, but like LosingmymindinGA said if they are severely painful then you may want to call your OBGYN....

It sounds like your having Braxton-Hicks contractions.  If you don't know what those are...they are basically Practice contractions.  It's not uncommon to have them early on in pregnancy.  They shouldn't be PAINFUL...more uncomfortable.  When you feel it again..put your hands on your stomach to see if it feels like it's tightening.  If it really concerns you, I would suggest calling your OB.
