Thanks ladies! I feel better about stopping now. :) I may ask my doctor for a test just for peace of mind, though. Wishing you all a happy 9 months!
I did some on-line research, too - here is a summary for those who are interested. It sounds like most doctor recommend stopping at the end of the 1st trimester and some as early as week 8. I did find several cases where progesterone levels dropped to <15 after stopping supplements at week 12 and the doctors recommended continuing suppositories through the end of the 2nd trimester. But it seems like most doctors don't even test progesterone levels after stopping the supplements. Also, a fertility doctor who specializes in immune-related pregnancy issues has a website saying that women with those issues should continue progesterone through the end of week 16.
My OB said to stop at 13 weeks. I'm 10w3 days right now. The placenta is fully formed by 12 weeks and takes over the production. But I understand your concern. I've had 6 m/c myself with no explaination so I'm wondering if they were all due to low progesterone levels. My Prometrium is the vaginal suppository vs. a pill.
i stopped mine at 3 months as recommended by my doctor
My doctor stopped mine at 13 weeks. He said it wasn't necessary any longer due to the placenta producing significantly more progesterone than supplements ever could.
I stopped at 10 weeks because I got the stomach flu and couldn't keep the pills down. You actually need to stop by 12 weeks. The placenta should be fully formed and have taken over the production of Progesterone. The supplements are only meant to be taken in the first trimester.
My doctor told me to stop at 13 weeks and he did not check a level, but I have never had a miscarriage I would be concerned about not checking it too. If your OB won't maybe your primary will check it if you tell them your concerns.
