When did you stop taking prenatal vitamins

I am now 11 weeks pregnant and I have been taking prenatal vitamins since I found out I was pregnant with my third baby in January.  Sadly I lost him in april but continued to take them until this pregnancy.

With my first pregnancy this year I was sick from about 7 weeks will 11 weeks when my son passed and I miscarried him naturally at 14 weeks.  I was so sick with him vomitting 3 times a day religiously and continuously nautious.

With this pregnancy I took the vitamins and I am just over 11 weeks and i am still feeling as sick as a dog.  I am tired of the nausea am throwing up and I am wndering if these pills are causing the problem.  With my first two pregnancies I didn't take these pre vitamins I only took floic acid and I threw up a few times and was nautous every now and then but nothing compared with my pregnancies this year.

When or have you stopped taking to vitamins?  I stopped taking my folic acid with my first two at about 12 weeks, is it safe to stop now?

I'm 31 weeks and I'm still taking my prenatals. I plan to continue taking them until I am done breastfeeding. I've always herd you are supposed to take them throughout your whole pregnancy (and after if you are going to breastfeed). I would talk to your doctor about this one before stopping.

I stopped prenatals when I went into labor and kept taking a multi vitamin afterwards.

I use the flintstones complete and just chew one up at bedtime. I tried three different prenatals and was having such bad morning sickness my midwife suggested I switch for a while. I'm 22w and still taking them. It's been my understanding that you are to continue your vitamins until after you deliver or stop breastfeeding.

Check to see if your prenatal pills contain fish oil.  If they do, switch to a brand that does NOT have the fishoil becuase it will contribute to the sickness.  Also try taking them around lunch time.  It's necessary to continue taking prenatals until the end of your pregnancy.  You can also talk to your doctor about switching to something like flintstone chewables if you really think the prenatals are causing the majority of your sickness.  However, keep in mind that most people who get morning sickness will have it until around 15-16 weeks regardless.

I'm 29 weeks and am still taking my vitamins. It does help with the nauseousness to take them before bed. Also you should try switching brands. Its weird, but some brands just don't sit well with some people even if they are supposed to have the same ingredients.

Just make sure you get enough Iron in your body or you could become deficit. Your doctor should be able to give you a script for some, or you could ask and see if an OTC one would be fine.

thank you all for your comments.  I think I might just stop taking them.  I am going for a scan next week sometime and I pray this baby is ok.  I am a bit scared I am just trying to build up the courage to call them.

I had a very hard time with my prenatals in the first trimester, even if i took them before bed. I asked around on here and someone suggested Vitafusion gummy vitamins. They taste good and have the DHA, folic acid and multivitamin in it. I take an iron supplement with them as they dont have any iron in them (i imagine its hard to make iron a gummy lol)

But i cant tell you how much they helped in the first 14 weeks when i had morning sickness, i was having to choke down my regular ones and then fight not to puke them back up. I found these at 10 weeks and they are amazing! I found them at target.

Spiket77 is right, I also take mine at night before bed, and it does help.  I found that if I take it earlier in the day I do have more tummy issues.  And not on an empty stomach, either, that just makes me feel queasy.

Are you taking them at night before bed? This keeps me from feeling sick. Also, I switched brands once. That seemed to help. I would try to find some way to continue taking them. In my opinion, it's important to try and make sure you fill in all the gaps in your nutrition with the vitamins. Even if you eat really healthy...it's nearly impossible to meet all of the nutritional needs for you and the baby. Also, try and eat something when you take them. I have my last snack of the day when I take mine.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I had a prenatal vitamin that really upset my stomach (worse than the already present morning sickness, of course) in 2001.  My ObGyn prescribed me a different one and it was MUCH better.  Then, later in that same pregnancy, I switched to another ObGyn, and he didn't recommend or prescribe them to his patients.  He was more of a "all the nutrients you and your baby need come from healthy food choices" kind of doc.  Which I totally agree with, but as I am NOT one to make the healthiest food choices (he had a diet plan for his patients of spinach, and lots of healthy green veggies that I just can't stomach, especially while pregnant), I kept taking the vitamins given by my previous doctor throughout my pregnancy and thereafter.  If you are planning to nurse, I know they suggest you continue them for as long as you do also.

So, if you are a big fruit and veggie eater who eats a lot of healthy foods, then you are already giving your baby plenty of nutrients just by doing that!  But, if you are like me and can't stomach all that stuff, your Ob should at least be able to switch you to something else - because you are right that it could be the vitamins that are making the nausea worse.  I found that the over-the-counter ones were the worst on my stomach!  Good luck!

I was 16 weeks when I quit taking them. They caused me to have excruciating, daily headaches. Once I quit taking them, the headaches were gone. Now I only suffer every once in a while, but for the most part. I feel pretty good.

I would ask your doctor when it was okay for you to stop taking these vitamins.  I know that if they are making you sick all the women in my husbands family always took two flinstone vitamins a day and they never got sick.  They said that two different doctors approved because the vitamins sometimes in smaller dosages help.  So, I would ask the doctor.  I know mine told me not to stop...however, I do have deficiencies in folic acid and b6 and b12.  Good luck...hope you have a safe healthy pregnancy.
