When do you start to see the ob every 2 weeks or every week?

Just curious...I know the frequency increases as you get farther along...when did every one start going every two weeks or every week?

AND bonus question...I saw a video of a vaginal birth at my childbirth class and when the baby was delivered, they put a TON of this ointment in the baby's eyes...I was too embarrassed to ask what it was and why they did it...Anyone else know!?  DH had the same question and was hoping I'd raise my hand and ask ;)

every 2 weeks when u finish ur 7th month n every week when u start ur 9th month

they put the ointment in the baby's eyes in case you have chlamydia or any other infection that can cause blindness in infants. you typically start going every 2 weeks between 28 and 32 weeks... closer to 28 if you have a high risk and closer to 32 if your pregnancy is low risk

the ointment on the baby's eyes is called silver nitrate or any other antibiotic that is needed and it's used to prevent any sort of infection that can affect the baby's eyes ...my every two weeks visits started from 30 weeks and the every weeks started from 36 weeks ,,,

My ob started me on my 2 week appt's at 28 weeks! I couldnt wait either! just seems like it gets closer faster when you go every two weeks!

And the ladies are right, the eye stuff is an antibacterial drop they place in all newborns eyes..... suppose to help fight infections! dont know the name of it tho!

It sounds silly but I can't wait to start going every two weeks! Hopefully mine will start after 28w lol  Then I could hear baby's hb at 30 w etc.  Four weeks feels like forever!

The second to last month you go every two weeks and then the last month is every week. I didn't know what that ointment was for the eyes :) Good luck! Mommyhood is great!

I started going every 2 weeks at week 28.  Then, at 36 weeks I will begin seeing my OB every week.  I think that most OBs will begin seeing their patients every 2 weeks around 28-30 weeks.

I cannot remember what the antibacterial ointment is called (we learned the name in our birthing class), but yes... it is used to PREVENT eye infections that can be caused from the bacteria that is in and around the vagina that the baby will come into contact with as it is being delivered.  Hope that helps!

The eye ointment is like an anti-bacterial and it is given to all babies no matter if it's vaginal or c-section. It is actually a law that they must administer it, but you can sign a waiver if you dont want them to use it. I wish I had, as my son had a minor eye infection for his first 2 weeks because of it. He's fine now and has beautiful, healthy eyes.... but still! Check this site out for sure:

its diffrent with every doc or pergnancy for me it was every four weeks but the closer you are the more you go but im still going every 4 weeks and im 25 weeks so its on your doc and the pregnancy and as far as the stuff they put on the babies eyes i have no clue id look it up

i started every 2 weeks at 24 weeks and weekly at 26 weeks...but i had twins. i'm not sure what it is for singletons.

I beleive the oinment is to prevent an eye infection in the baby from any bacteria in the vaginal area during delivery.  2 wk visits start around 32 weeks, then weekly at 36wks.  Good Luck!!

Don't be afraid to ask questions, probably every woman in that class was wondering the same thing and hoping someone else would ask!! lol
Anyway, I've had 3 babies and I know they put stuff in their eyes right away (it shows up all silvery in their first pictures) but I still don't know exactly why!  Guess I should ask, too. = )

U start going every week at 36 weeks. Unless u are high risk then well i go every 2 weeks now and im only 16wks, but the norm is 32wks every 2 wks and 36 weeks every week
