The other ladies are correct, there is a weight and height limit on the seat. I switched my son from the infant to infant/toddler convertible when he was about 20 lbs. (5 1/2 months). It should have a sticker on the actual seat with that information.
Thanks for the info, I'll definitely get them checked out. 1 of them I KNOW has not been in an accident, it is from a close friend. the other three I'll have to check w/the manufacturers and all.
I did also register for a stroller w/detachable car seat NEW from walmart, so I'm hoping I get it. :)
pinkbelle, I assume by infant seat you mean the infant carriers, right? If so baby can only stay in an infant carrier to a certain weight and height. If you still have the manual it should say on there.
I kept my girls in an infant carrier until 3-4 months old and then switched to a convertible carseat. It's much safer! Those infant carriers are only meant for newborns, not older babies. And obviously keep it rear-facing until a year old AND at least 20 lbs.
I just bought a Chicco infant carset and the weight limit is 30 lbs. I'm sure all are different though.
Hey I just wanted to mention something to you because you said your seats were given to you. I just want to make sure that you know who the seats came from and that all of the seats were not in any cars that may have been in a car accident. We had the fire department install our infant seat a couple weeks ago and they go through the whole thing abou safety and such. Even though we bought our seat brand new, they still had to explain to us about used car seats. Basically we were told never to accept a used seat because you don't know what type of condition they are in or if they had ever been involved in any car accidents. We were told even if you know the person you can never be too sure. I just want you to be aware that if anything has happened to any of the seats you received for example, damage or a car accident, they are NO longer acceptable to manufacturer's specificatons and can actually be quite dangerous for the baby. I am sure you know the people who gave them to you but please just be careful and try and find out as much information as possible about their history. Also, since they are used, you will not receive any recall information from the manufacturer because the seats are registered to the original owner and not you. Just something to keep in mind about your seats. I don't want to alarm you I just want you and your baby to be safe. Finally, I would look up the models online that you received and see what the manufacturer's specs are for each seat as that is the only way to be certain that they are indeed for infant use. You should be able to find weight limits and height limits, etc about the seats. Just make sure you keep up on recall information on your own though.
How do I know if my seat is a NB seat or not? I've been given 3 carseats... (Yea, alot I know, but 1 for my car, 1 for MIL car and 1 for gmom's car.)
they usually have a weight limit or when there too tall for it. Meaning there head is sticking out the top. Thats very dangerous. Mine two were around a year old but it all depends on the size..Most say 20-25 lbs, i think..
They say that baby should stay in an infant seat untill they are a year old. There is a web site somewhere about car seat laws. I think as long as baby can hold her head up well with out it flopping around and a certain weight, Im not sure:::( My boys out grew theres by 10 months so....... I know alot of people who would argue with me but I had to put them in a front facing seat.....
