I think what nutz was saying by doctors surgery was a doctor OFFICE. Just like how here we say were going to the hospital there it's just going to hospital.... and alot of times actual surgery room is called "theater"
Am I right?
That was a safety issue...the person who commented that it was probably a sterile environment was correct. Breastmilk is considered a bodily fluid and it can pass infection on to other people...just as urine, vomit, and blood can.
I think it's kind of gross to breastfeed at restaurants because again, the bodily fluid thing. It you're covered up and are careful, then that's a little better. I'm one of those people who are really uncomfortable around breastfeeding women, even though I nursed my son too! I never nursed in public or around people besides my husband, I was just uncomfortable and didn't feel like sharing it with the rest of the world. Some of my friends feel this way too...we couldn't even nurse in front of our own mothers...it's just too weird.
So, I understand why that women was told to stop. I can't think of exactly the place I'm thinking of right now, but there are places (maybe in hospitals?) that have signs that say that you can't enter if you're lactating. It makes sense if you think about it!
Locally, there was a women who was at a restaurant breast feeding and the waitress asked her to cover up. When the women didn't then the waitress gave her a napkin or something to use. The women informed the manager and aparently he apologized and said he would be re-training everyone as far as breast feeding goes (that's all the women wanted done, no lawsuit or anything). It is a law in the US that a women has the right to breastfeed in public.
I'm not sure that I understand the question or what she did. It sounds like she was nursing in a surgery room while they were performing surgery. If that is the case or was in a sterile environment I can understand, as breastmilk actually can have HIV etc in it. I know that is why they tell you that there is a risk when you buy a used breast pump. they said that you must buy all new accessories and not share your pumps. Just a thought, but like I said I don't know that I am seeing all the info!
i know, its bang out of order. whats even worse is that it was in a docters surgery. Not that long ago a mother was told to stop breastfeeding in a park by a police officer. its getting out of hand i think.
nope i'm in the US but that's just crazy....i dunno about in england but here if someone tried to do that to me i'd sue the pants off of them. I bet they wouldn't tell a BOTTLE feeding mother that.
Yep. I was watching the wright stuff and they mentioned it. I cant believe they can do that. I live in England by the way. i dunno if you live here or somwhere else.
nope hadn't heard about that....is there a news story about it?
