Yeast Infection question...

So, I developed what I think is a yeast infection...have had it since Friday night...I have chosen to let it run it's course without medication. So far the irritation is minimal I still have some vaginal swelling, and discharge.

Now my questions are...1- can a yeast infection cause spotting? I did have spotting yesterday, but have not seen any today so far.

2- Can an untreated yeast infection cause any harm to the baby, such as preterm labor, or uterine infection?

3- DF and I had intercourse Friday afternoon (I felt normal down there) and Friday night is when the irritation started, what are the chances of DF getting the yeast infection, and what are the symptoms for men?

4- How long without medical intervention do I have to wait to have intercourse, so that DF does not get it?

smjmekg- I know you weren't correcting me, I was more or less backing you up on the whole men and yeast infection thing lol. I heard the symptoms in men are redness and irritation. But not sure on what part of their "man hood" is affected lol. So far DF has been okay, and hasn't had any issues down there, so thats a plus!

I am using the off brand of Monistat 7 that my doc prescribed. So far this is night 3, and things are SLOWLY returning back to normal for me. I am still a bit irritated when I use the bathroom and wipe, still spotting...but the ER doc said it's due to an area on my inner labia that was rubbed raw when I was swollen, and apparently I was itching it at night and not knowing it. So it's good to know that it's not pregnancy related.

I'm more mentally irritated about having the infection than physically lol....The lack of sex is killing me, and to think I have to go 2 1/2 weeks. It will be a week friday that I got it, plus I have to wait until the meds are finished and then wait to make sure all my symptoms are gone before I can BD lol....and it stinks!!!!!

I got a HORRIBLE yeast infection when I was in my third trimester, and my OB gave me a pill that I took for it. I think it was only one or two pills, but it worked like a charm!  So much better than the messy creams, and it was safe to take while pregnant. I can't remember the name of it, but its worth asking your OB about.

Yes, I know men can get yeast infections...my older son had them too as an infant. I have also had male friends who contracted it from a female partner, they don't develop them on their own, but they can get it with some help ;) lol

I am planning on going to the OB's office later today to see if I can get something for it. I know Diflucan has not been proven safe for use while pregnant, so maybe there is something else I can get. I would use the Monistat but I have had a HORRIBLE reaction to it in the past, and really do not want to take the chances with another reaction this time.

I know i'm ready for intercourse again ;) but I don't want to take any chances on passing it to DF...and 10-14 days of letting it run it's course is a LONG LONG time not to be able to have sex lol

If you are spotting you need to see a dr. I've been told that a yeast infection in pregnancy can cause problems in pregnancy. I was told by an OB. So I would suggest that you see your OB

One correction, YES men can get yeast infections. Men can get it from a female that is infected.

I'm not just telling you they can get it cause I found it online, my son has had yeast infections more than once. I don't have an answer to any of your questions, but I did want to let you know men CAN get them.

Are you sure it's a yeast infection and not something else? You might want to call your dr just to be safe and ask.

Only complication I have heard of a yeast infection causing to the baby is that it will be more likely to have thrush.... I was looking it up the other day and that's all I could find.... I also read that a lot of midwives will say to let it run it's course....

Yes and untreated infection can cause problems in a pregnancy if you are worried about taking medication while you are pregnant eating some yogurt at least one cup a day what that does is help restore the balance of good bacteria in your body

Men don't get yeast infections that's a wonderful infection for us ladies
