I was really concerned about taking zoloft too when I first found out I was pregnant because of all of the horrible things I saw and heard on tv about lawsuits... I saw a psychiartist around 10 weeks into my pregnancy and his exact words were "its about weighing the pros and cons, a balancing act, I have been in psyhiartry and medcine for 20 years and never seen any birth defects from this medication"... he also suggested that I did NOT ween off of the medicine at the end, even if doctors suggested it, he said the withdrawal symptoms I may experience would be intense ontop of being in labor and the baby would feel the stress as well. Now I am 30 weeks along, completely healthy baby and pregnancy. Zoloft is also listed in the newest edition of "what to expect while you're expecting" as one of the safest antidepressants to take during pregnancy. Don't stress and goo luck to you!
Thank you guys... I'm also the same way if anything were to go wrong I would be quick to blame myself. I immediately stoped takin the Zoloft when I heard babies are 2 to 3 times more likely to be born with birth defects I've been off them for 3 days now cause its scared me.
I'm taking it too. I'm 17 weeks and it has worked great. If you need to be on something zoloft is the answer during pregnancy. :) try it out but remember it takes a few weeks to kick in completely.
Oh ok. I just know how oklahoma dr are. They still incurage castor oil here.
I didn't want to be on anything while pregnant. I have worked with kids that have disabilities and am the type of person that would blame myself forever if something were wrong with my kid. So, I just deal the best I can. Wont be surprised to be served with divorce papers in the months after this baby is due ;)
Do you know why she wanted you off it? My dr never said anything but if ita bad I might wanna ween off it.
Zoloft is the safest med for anxiety and depression while you are pregnant and breastfeeding and no you do not need to wean off in the lat trimester usually. It is best to take it throughout your whole pregnancy as those who experience depression are at greater risk of post partum depression. Taking the Zoloft will decrease your risk of post partum depression.
My doc said its ok until last tri-mester. Then she prefers that her patients ween off. I went off of it in my early pregnancy. I'm almost 34 wks and the past 3 weeks have been emotional hell. I cannot wait to take that pill the.moment my doc sews me back up!
I take zoloft and it works wonderfully for me with no problems.
