a couple questions for already mommies, plz read!!

Yesterday i posted about my daughter not being able to poop for a few days, well today she had an appt and the dr said to just wait it out!! he said its normal for newborns and to not give her anything, no medicine, not even juice or anything natural. so im pretty upset about that. if she doesnt poop by tonight im doing the thermometer thing that some of u suggested. well anyway, shes 16days old today. her belly button fell off when she was 10 days old but theres like mucusy stuff coming out. it gets all over her onsies and it just looks unnatural. has anybody else experienced this before? He also kinda just shrugged that off. said to clean it with gauze but to not put anything on it. ive been cleaning it with alcohol but i guess ill stop since he said to. Idk really. anybody elses babies been thru this? and what did u do?

Is she formula or breastfed?  Breastfed babies can go a week or more without pooping, and not being constipated its just because tgey are getting exactly as much as they need and dont have much waste.  Mine always went a good couple days to a week between.  But its normally not till a little older that they stop going a lot.  My son didnt poop for a little over a week after he had gotten rid of all his meconium.  It was scary.  They had me give him a glycerin supository.  Just an over the counter one, cut lengthwise in a fourth the size of what it comes in.  He pooped a ton within a minute.  I would not give a baby that young any kind of juice.

Make sure you water down the prune juice though, remember she has a very sensitive stomach still. Don't stress just give her time. My first freaked me out when he didn't poo for 6 days.... I tell you though when he finally did poo.... Phew yuck!! L

The doctor can use silver nitrate on her belly button to stop the ooze..i'm surprised your Dr didn't do that while you were there. Also you can give your baby up to an ounce of prune juice and it's absolutely safe for her constipation. :-)

I would watch putting peroxide on it till you ask a dr. sometimes it can make it worse. Like when you get ur belly button pierced they tell you never to put peroxide on it. Cuz it won't heal correctly. I know ur daughters not pierced haha but same region. I do remember my son had alil discharge when his cord feel off and I just kept it cleaned out and it stopped after about a week and started to heal up.

If your breastfeeding its normal for baby to not poop up to 18 days (if they don't seem uncomfortable)  because breast milk is so easy to digest.

Sounds odd, but if your breast feeding put some breast milk on it. It's fantastic for infections and what not because of all the antibodies in it. Also just a simple saline solution works well. Remember bub has new sensitive skin and it might be the extra chemicals that are upsetting the healing.
As for the pooing, it's normal for new borns to not poo for up to 7 days. Only time you really have to worry is when bub has a rock hard belly, or are straining for a poo and it hurts them. A great trick for it is warm water in a bottle or a little brown sugar dissolved in warm water given to bub. Good luck Hun.

Try and use hydrogen peroxide to clean her belly button. It sounds kind of like an infection and you don't want to let that sit.
