a friend of mine is going into preterm labor at 32 weeks.. what are the statistics on this??

hey ladies a friend of mine started having bleeding yesterday and went to the hospital last night and was having contractions and was given 3 shots to stop her contractions. they then sent her home after her and the baby were stable.. now she's leaking fluid and is having more contractions and is at the dr's office waiting to see if it is indeed amniotic fluid and what they are wanting to do.. what will the drs do in this situation.. anyone have any experience in this.. she is only 32 weeks now..

The baby should be fine, and may be on CPAP (nasal positive airway pressure) or even a ventilator for a while til the lungs are more mature. my son was born at 35w and was able  to breathe fine.

Forgot to write in that, that the baby if born before 37 weeks will likely be in the nicu until close to the due date.  Both of mine were in there for 10 to 14 days, which was 37 weeks and 36w1d

Alright I skipped over everyones comments cause I usually read them.  But with my son, at 29 weeks, heard this little popping sound, and went in to get checked because with my daughter, when my water broke I heard it pop like a balloon!  Well, it's a good thing I went to get checked because I was having contractions, but it's normal to leak fluid, and it could just be urine.  It happens.  Both my babies were born well, one at 34w1d and 35w.  So The baby should be good if it's born this week.  What they will probably do if she has to go back into the hospital, as I just read your comment here from 22 mins ago, they will most likely put her on magnesium sulfate!  I hate it, makes you feel baligerantly(sp) drunk!  She wont be eating or be able to drink more then like 2 ozs of water a day, but will have iv.  So tell her to really stick to the bedrest, and do exactly what they told her to do!  The longer the baby stays in the more development it will have!

Tell her good luck and offer to help her out as much as you can!!  :)

my cousin was born at 32wks and she is now a healthy little 1yr old. she was 3lb 2oz at birth and was in the nicu for a few weeks and had to be sent home with an apnea monitor, but she did well and is growing just fine :)

thank you.. she just called me back and told me that her dr has given her more meds to stop the contractions and has put her on bedrest until she comes back next week.. she also told her that she has sent off i guess a sample of the fluid to run tests on it to see if the baby is going to come early..

My gf had her baby at 30 weeks and the baby did survive.  She was 3.5 lbs and had to stay in the hospital for a while, but today she is happy, healthy and normal for her age, so while I don't know stats, I think the odds are good.

well  if she isnt leavking fluid they will still try to stop her labor . If she is then  they will monitor but i  dont think they willtry to  stop it  due to the fact that if she is  leaking fuild then she and the baby  could bea risk for an infection. I beleive they willgive her steriods to  helpe the baby's lungs if the baby is going to be deliverd  early.  babies  born at  32 wks usually  are going  to be  fine  hopefullything  work out for her i will keepher and her baby in my thoughts and prayers
