My doc scolded me for going to the ER in similar circumstances.  He said that there is nothing to do to stop a miscarriage at 6 weeks if the bleeding is caused by one, and that the bleeding might be from something else entirely, and they can't tell, and all you do is get exposed to germs and illness when you sit around in the ER waiting room.  He told me what I should have done instead is to go to bed, keep well hydrated with water, and not get up except for going to the loo and eating until 24 hours after the bleeding stopped.  Said the rest and hydration won't stop an embryo from leaving if it is fading, but it *will* stop uterine contractions if they are being caused by something else (walking and being dehydrated can cause contractions).  I thought that was a bit hard (for him to scold me for going to the ER when I was frightened), but it is true that in the early stages there is little enough to do to stop a miscarriage -- it's not like they can do surgery on a tiny embryo and fix something, or give you a pill and magically make the embryo OK.  Anyway, stay off your feet and keep hydrated, it could very well just be a small blood vessel that is broken and have nothing at all to do with the embryo.  Good luck!!!!

Depends on how much bleeding. I just hit 7 weeks today and have been spotting since last Sat (4 days ago). Been to the er. Here is what I was told. Half of all women go through bleeding process called a threatened miscarriage. 1 in 4 will actually miscarry. At the er they check our Hcg levels check kidney and liver function, do a pelvic with two tests, and an ultrasound. Mine came back all normal andwas able to see my baby's heartbeat. So its waiting and seeing what will happen. I'm taking it easy and noticed stress increased the blood. They told me come back to the er if I filled a pad twice within an hour. I'm still freaking out everytime I go to the bathroom, but praying for everything to be ok. Hope this helps and keep us updated. Good luck!
