blood in ariana's mucous

i just wiped her nose and then sunctioned it out with the sucker thingy and there is blood in her snot and she has been screaming and not wanting to eat her bottle... isn't this a sign of a sinus infection or ear infection? can it wait to call the doctor tomorrow or should i phone after hours? i just gave her some childrens advil thinking shes probably in pain... idk what to do

I also recommend the steamy shower option one of the ladies suggested. Turn the shower on hot with the bathroom door closed and sit her upright in your lap next to the shower until she falls asleep. This will help her sinuses to drain so she can sleep well :). The saline drops can cause sinus irritation as can the bulb. If she doesn't have a fever it is probably not an infection. You are doing just fine, don't worry (or try not to, I know easier said than done)

okay thanks!! i know i mainly suction out her nose cause it scares me...i heard somewhere they can't breathe through their mouth; which doesn't seem like it would be true but it still makes me so nervous when her nose is stuffed up that i probably do overdo the bulb. because i am so terribly afraid of SIDS. ugh. we have a humidifier we use...but it seems to only help when its right next to you, and obviously i can't put it in her crib so its fairly pointless.

yeah it's not a huge deal to give ibuprofen it's just avoided for the same reasons you avoid it during pregnancy (i don't know the reasons but that's why our Ped. said no before 6 months...I would recommending asking the ped for dosing though because if you're giving her too LITTLE there's no point because it wont be doing it's job and then you'll be giving it for no reason...but obviously you dontw ant to give too much....so I would say just ask what dose he recommends :) )...but the closer to 6 months she is the safer it is for her to use.

yeah it probably just irritated her sinuses my kids are the same...my husband has awful sinuses and mine have no problems but both kids get pink mucus if I use the bulb too much..but man it's hard to hear them sniffling and snorting and trying to sleep :(.

try sitting with her in the bathroom and running a steam shower....and then hold her upright until she falls asleep it should help her sinuses stay clear long enough for her to fall into a deep sleep. hold off on the bulb as long as you possibly can but if it happens again when you do it, as long as it's not a bunch, she should be just fine :).

its like if i had a blood tinged discharge...its pink snot basically.. i just noticed it so i dont know yet whether or not it'll be continous. ive been using the saline drops and bulb syringe...so i guess it just irritated her sinuses? poor thing...DH has awful sinus problems so i guess she inherited it. well the advil says ask a doctor under 6 months...i use half the 6 months dosage so i figure its okay..ive used it before. my mom brought it home when she got her shots cause thats all they had at the store and it hasn't caused her any problem that i know of :/

i just wanted to say as far as the possibility of the blood indicating an infection...it's unlikely. mucus color (green/yellow/brown) is a better indicator and blood, like I said, can be completely normal due to sensitive sinus cavities.

is it just a small amount or is it continuous? their sinuses are very sensitive and can be easily irritated by the bulb syringes, but suctioning is the best thing you can do when she's sniffly. make sure you're using saline drops in her nose too, that will kill any bacteria that might expose to the broken blood vessels and prevent any chance of infection from the spots that are bleeding.

you shouldn't be giving her children's advil, IMO. they recommend no ibuprofen for kids under 6 months....but as long as you followed the weight dosing instructions it should be fine. you mean infant's advil, right?

at any rate a small amount of blood in her mucus can be normal but if it happens repeatedly or seems like a large amount (especially if it's dark blood) then I would call the pediatrician to see what they recommend.

poor ariana :(
