I had never heard of it either...my doc acted like it wasn't that uncommon so I wouldn't stress about it :)
Thanks this not first pregnancy but I never had any problems with the rest and I had never even heard of having one artery in ur umbilical cord till now.
I had this problem with my daughter, but it was not discovered until after I gave birth. The doctor said that if they had known before, they would have done more ultrasounds to check on her kidneys as having one artery can sometimes lead to problems with fluid on the kidneys. Sincethey did not know, I had only one ultrasound and delivered a healthy baby girl. They did give her an ultrasound the day after she was born to make sure her kidneys were functioning, but besides that and a little bit of jaundice...she never had, and still hasn't had, any complications. Congrats and good luck!!!!!
Google is bad, very bad! On MH you are not allowed to use that horrible website. Just try your best not to stress and enjoy your pregnancy.
Thanks I think I messed up when I looked up the umbilical cord thing on the internet and read all the possible things that could happen and go wrong.
My friend had them every other week too. she was a higher risk pregnancy so they just wanted to watch everything. I think they just want to make sure that the baby is doing good. don't get to stressed out over it.
I don't think having 1 artery is going to cause a birth defect, but I'm no expert. What good is having you come every 4 weeks going to do? Probably just check on its growth?
