cervix sewing?

What does this mean that I will have to have the cervix shut?  Will this not break and let the baby come anyway?  I am 27 weeks today.  I was taken out of work til Monday, then the dcotor will see how far the cervix has went down.....right now it is 2cm.  Does this mean that there is 2cm from where the baby is and the opening of my vagina?

I am thinking that based on your information he may have meant the the cervix was two cm in length.  I have an infantile sized cervix and mine is only 2-3 cm in length.  Typically when you say cervix sewing, you are referring to a cerclage.  This is either a sewing of the cervix or a banding of the cervix to keep in shut in order to prevent the cervix from opening and losing the baby.  I have had two kinds of cerclage, one a rescue cerclage at about 21 weeks were my cervix was already opening.  The next was a sewing or pursestring cerclage that was placed at 8 weeks because we were aware of my problem.  A cerclage does stay in place and hold the cervix closed.  The only concern is if you do not remove the cerclage before you go into the last stages of labor in which case it is possible to tear.  However, this RARELY happens.  A doctor will remove the cerclage ususally at about 36 weeks.  Typically 27 weeks is on the late side to be performing a cerclage, but I am not sure if that is what they are considering.  I too have a uterus that sits very low and the baby could be felt through the vagina.  It is actually sitting lower this pregnancy than my last and it can be very worrisome, but  try to hang in there and it can be helped.  They may put you on bedrest among other things, but every single day you can keep baby in is the goal.  She is at the point of viability which is a bit of relief.  Are you having any contractions?  Hope all goes well and keep us posted on what happens.

My last LMP was march 18th.  But I am only messuring 27 this past Saturday.  The ultrasound saids I am 25 on Saturday ( yesterday).  I guess I will find out in the morning what else is going to happen.  She is hurting me a lot today.  I have to finish up some school work then go to bed.  Thanks for all you have said.  Melisa

When is your due date or your LMP? I had a miscarriage in Feb and got pregnant in March. My LMP was March 25th and I'm 29 weeks. How are you only 27 weeks?

Sounds like she has 2cm to the entrance that is why they are going to sew you because you have nothing to hold her in there so they need to stitch it so that she can't get out.

She is sitting 2cm on the cervix.  Thats what I was asking.  Does that mean I have 2cm of the entrance of my vagina to where she sits?  I can feel her kicking on my vagina.  she kicked so hard during the ultrasound Wednesday that she kicked it out of me.  Like I said I have had three misscarriages.  Two of the three were within a year of each other.  I had surgery that thinned out my cervix and uterus about three years ago.  Thats why she wants to come out....there is nothing to hold her in place the bigger she gets.

Correct sewing it means that they are going to prevent it from becoming dilated... though why they are doing that if you aren't even dilated and if you dont have a history for it is beyond me. I hope the very best for you and that this pregnancy is carried to term and everything turns out alright with you and your baby!

I knew what they were doing.  But, when he told me 2cm of cervix???  He said that I was not dilated though.  But, when I lost the baby in FEB.  I passed it without dilating.  ????  I am confussed a little.  Does this mean I will not dilate?

It means that your cervix is starting to dilate. Usually when that happens they put a stitch there so that you wont go into pre-term labor and as it gets closer to your due date they take the stitch out.
